I have a WIDE opening to move to New York. Brooklyn, specifically. Now, if I could only figure out how the hell to get myself with a cat and stuff I'd rather not sell off across the country for less than like $4,000 that I don't have...

Step 1. Rental truck. Twiller would know how much his cost, and you might be able go with a smaller one.
Step 2. A good friend willing to drive with you the whole way.
Step 3. A one-way ticket for them to get home once you are moved. (Or, if they are in the NYC area, a one-way ticket for them to get to you.)

Granted, step 2 also includes 'cheap ass hotels and fast food and gas' but it's budgetable.

Definitely have looked into this. A u-haul type deal will cost me about $2,000+ just to rent the smallest one because I am going all 3,000 miles. I found decent deals on renting a normal car or SUV. There's a chance I might be able to get a bed there for cheap so I can ditch mine which saves a lot. I have a friend willing to drive with me and we'd camp along the way instead of hotels because the weather would be nice enough.

But I'm still on a super tight budget anyway. It is maybe doable but it currently hinges on Alison being able to sublet my room for June since there is no way in hell I can pull this off for June, and on finding someone with good credit to cosign for me since I will be jobless when I show up.
