Johnny walked through the airport with his largest and most impressive sunglasses taking up most of his face and a fur stole wrapped around his throat and covering the edge of his chin, so that all that was really on display was the tip of his nose and his firm, set mouth. He thought it made a good impression. It meant business. It telegraphed fuck off and leave me alone, and if you shove a camera at me I'll snap it off, so it was lucky that there were no photographers yet. The extra-large, extra-sassy sunglasses came in handy when they walked into the meeting. Johnny surveyed the assembled suits through them - okay, they weren't really suits, just boring-looking people he didn't recognise, plus Frank Carroll. And Evan Lysacek, sitting hunched in his chair and scribbling away on a legal pad. Johnny wished there was a little dramatic drumroll of music of something to announce his entrance, but no one looked up until Tara arrived on his heels, out of breath.

"Mr Weir," said one of the boring people. "Thank you for joining us."

Johnny tilted his head down to stare at them over the top of his glasses. Evan glanced over at him for a brief second and glared at him, like this was all his fault ( ... )
