JR's a cute kid, and since he turned eighteen, Apolo's been using that hot and willing body as often and in every way he can. To him, it's just sex, and if JR ever starts making noises about having something more, well, Apolo finds a way to shut him up pretty quick. Apolo doesn't even feel bad when he knocks the kid down a few pegs. He doesn't do relationships, and certainly not with a starry-eyed puppy dog.

But then the Olympic Trials happen. JR comes less than an inch away from bleeding out onto the ice, and Apolo's struck by the very unwelcome realization that he really cares about the kid. In fact, he might even *gulp* love him. But, laying in a hospital bed, faced with the possibility of never being able to walk again, does JR even want to see the man who's treated him so callously?

Let me temper the Harlequin-ness by saying that I'd love it if Apolo could retain his dickish tendencies even while trying really hard to be sweet and compassionate. Or, at least, his version of sweet and compassionate.

OP here.

You can't hear it, but I'm surprised the high pitched squeeing sound emanating from me isn't attracting dolphins. Or bats. I think I made one of the neighbor's dogs bark though...

Anway, AWESOME!!!! Yay for angst, and poor JR, and douchey-but-with-a-reason Apolo. Can't wait for more of this!

Anon #2 here; you are most welcome!!! Your prompt was insideous; the plot bunnies have been consuming my brain for at least a week and a half with no sign of letting up (yet) XD

I've been working on this piecemeal, sending it off to my awesome, awesome beta for editing. Once I get a few more sections back, I'll post them, which means this should get updated about every few days. Or so (I will do my absolute best to keep this coming).

With the benefit of hindsight, he knew it was because she hadn’t earned his body, hadn’t understood what it meant to him and what it cost. Maybe it was complete self-absorption and arrogance to get turned off in the middle of sex because, while your partner appreciated the look and feel of your body, she didn’t fucking appreciate your body. As it turned out, simply having a figure he was aroused by was never enough to hinder the way skin-on-skin made his brain send a killjoy shock of realization to his dick ( ... )

After a month or so, they wanted to spend time together outside of rushed sex that wasn’t so great because Apolo was bone tired and didn’t always like being touched. They wanted Apolo to stay for Friday night movies and to meet their friends for drinks when Apolo had to leave now for training drills with the team and no, he could never skip it ‘just this once ( ... )
