this is a poem to the 5 year old
whom I haven’t seen in
in ages,
whose large and innocent eyes
have lost their youthful shine,
tarnished like silver candlesticks
by the fingerprints of
time:
a smear of blood from cuts and bruises,
streaks of pertinacity from adolescence,
I have streaked your face with countless tears
that fail to wash
