I totally get your meaning. I played music for 10+ years... (almost... 13?) and I totally get your meaning.

YES! i love rocking out! i totally get lost in some songs where i live for a certain note or moment or whatever and then when it gets there, it's mindblowing and i loveeeeeee it. :D rofl i played the 3rd mvmt of this one beethoven sonata instead of the first, juuust because the 1st mvmt died down and the 3rd mvmt went out with a bang. xD

In 'We Looked Like Giants', the :whole point: of the song is that the singer is in the perspective of someone who lived through the events depicted in the song, and is looking back on them. He misses the events themselves, and wishes he knew at the time how important they were ( ... )

First things first, I am SO not trying to knock on the composition/lyrics. It is definitely an amazing song. My only disappointment is with the performance.

I have to disagree that giving it more energy and dynamics would entirely change the song to a "yay! sex!" thing. He could easily put just a tiny bit more dynamic variation and energy into both the singing and drums while keeping the lamenting/reminiscent tone of the whole song.
(will probably add to this later, but now I'm going to sleep)
