I am currently watching. I got in the door just as the programming flipped over. To be perfectly honest, I was worried that it was something awful like a meteor heading for us. :)

I think it's more of a symbolic thing at this point, since I doubt that OSL was hunkered in a base somewhere looking at a big light up map like a James Bond villian. you've got to be careful though, because symbols and what they mean for people can sometimes cut both ways.

I don't like to ever say the death of someone is a good thing (because it's not good karma), but well, the guy was responsible for something so horrendeous. Sooner or later, you've got to pay for that, whether by courtroom or...well, not courtroom.

And yes, i will be watching his speech. I'm kind of a news junkie anyway.

Do you think it will have an effect on the people of the US? Or do you think it's just a punishment he had coming and now a small part of it is over?

First, I have to laugh, because your post was the first I'd heard of it. And it was before your correction! I thought What? The President is dead? And your post seemed so nonchalant. Then parts didn't seem to make sense. "Will you be watching the President's speech" I thought, "Joe Biden is going to give a speech already ( ... )

Haha oh that was embarrassing! When I was listening they were talking about Obama's speech. That one letter difference is sure important!

I certainly won't blast you for not wanting to celebrate the death of a human life. I'll (probably) post my opinion after I read them all, but I agree with this portion.

I didn't hear about the nuclear device. That's horrifying. We've had enough destruction lately.

I'm worried about the retaliation as well. I'm especially worried that many people are so busy rejoicing that we "killed the enemy" that they don't realize the threat. Living 20 minutes from Chicago doesn't make me feel any better either...

I found out on twitter- and then told my parents. Then we turned the TV on and it was all over the place.

Now I don't like to talk about politics or world events because I feel like it's so easy to get someone upset on my lj that I don't make opinions on those things.

But, I don't see this as a full on victory. Surely with all his persuasion there is a group waiting to carry on. I don't believe his place was just sittin all pretty without getting a few eye brows raised. I like that it brought closure, but I didn't understand the party outside at the gates. I think it should have been like a candle ceremony for those who died, not a.. it looked to me like seniors cheering for a football game. It didn't seem to match up. They did interview a few people who were more sorrowful about the family they lost.

I agree, the parties seemed out of place and extreme. The reaction just didn't fit. He might be "evil", but he still has a family. And I agree that there's a group waiting to carry on.

Yay, it's nice to see a new opinion on this topic. Don't be afraid of posting anything here. There's isn't anyone on my journal who would knock someone for having a different opinion.

I considered that he'd been dead for a while and we just hadn't posted the tapes. It would't surprise me at all. On the other hand, I won't claim any of the possibilities as truth because we just don't know....and never will.
