Does anybody have any suggestions for some good Anime? Or even better, is there a website or something that has a list of "Best Anime?" I really love the stuff, but I'm pretty ignorant as to what is considered "essential" or even good quality examples of the genre ( Read more... )

I wish i could help, but alas I am no more knowledgeable than you. Except that the couple episodes i saw of "Big O" when it used to be on Toonami were really good I thought.
But yes, Studio Ghibli films are great--Miyazaki Hayao is a storytelling genius.

I've also seen the Final Fantasy movie, which had a so-so story but probably the best CGI animation EVER.

Sadly, I haven't really watched much Dragonball or Dragonball Z. I'm sure I could get into it, though. Thinking of watching some more anime tonight.... maybe Sunday night too.... I get Columbus Day off! Hoorray for Columbus! Civilization to the primitive heathen, AND a day off for Federal employees. What a guy.

After watching episodes 5-8 of Evangelion, I don't like it nearly as much. It's mostly a soap opera. And not a particularly interesting one. Perhaps it's the overly-stylized depiction of human emotions that makes the characters seem so cold -- even the ones that aren't supposed to be.
