Hey all, given that I'm coming up blank on what to give my parents for an upcoming big event, I thought I'd turn to you, dear readers. This March, my parents will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary, my father's 85th birthday, and my mother's 70th birthday. At the last big one 40/80/65, I made up a book with photos from throughout their life ( Read more... )

Before I go over the top brainstorming... do you really want to "beat" it or do you want another over the top way to do it?

... because Damn woman, the first idea was A-Maz-ing.

Aw, thanks.
I know that it's probably not possible to "beat" it without more time than I can probably dredge up in the next three months. So, probably something else over the top. Really, I'm stuck on doing something that is meaningful and not just another random gift. You know?

I love the video tribute idea. The biggest issue is that my eldest sister lives in rural WA and I can't even get her on the phone, let alone something more complex. Do you know a good video editing software that isn't too hard to learn? I guess I could try to get it together during the celebratory cruise. I've never worked with video before.

As to the travel idea, they actually have something like that! They put pins into a large map on the wall and the pins light up! It's pretty neat.

I don't know of a good video editing software, I just use the crappy Windows movie editor that came with my computer. It's relatively simple but also really limited. I'm sure there is someone out there in your group of friends who can recommend exactly what you need :D

What a cool map that must be!

This is really starting to inspire me. Like, I could buy one of those flip video cameras and send it out to far away relatives like my aunt in Montana or my Dad's best friend in Louisiana and have them tape themselves and then send it back!
