Mudrigal

I had a really nice event. I did not feel terribly invested in much that was going on, but Mark was so clearly thrilled by everything that it made my event that much better. But perhaps we should start from the beginning...

We arrived on site before dark, probably around 5pm, and we drove down the muddy road that eats cars without trouble although a little bit of nervousness because the ruts were already great and worse than we expected from the email already received. In fact, we mentioned to each other that some vehicles might have trouble with such a road and that it would likely get much worse before it got better. But we thought no more of it as we set up our stuff and settled down for a pre-game nap. Soon enough, our dear friend tashewolf came to see if we could assist in getting a mini-coop out of the mud. Always game to be of assistance, we tromped out to the road, pushed with little luck, and were told by AAA that they would not, in fact, be able to assist us since we were more than 50 feet from a paved road. Well, then began the dance of many many emails sent and the attempt to go down the other road - Old Turnpike Road. A prius got stuck on that one, but luckily we were able to push it out and it was decided that all cars would be warned about all routes to the campsite. So, people were shuttled from the local park and ride and those with four wheel drive ferried stuff to the camp. I hauled stuff and directed people. And did I mention there was thunder, lightning, pouring rain, hail, and high winds that brought a large branch down less than ten feet from me? But I did enjoy every minute that I was out there as it was exhilarating to deal with problem after problem and be of assistance to people while the weather whipped around. After about three hours out there, I headed back to camp as I was completely soaked and was starting to lose feeling in my elbows. I felt guilty leaving my husband, but he's much more of a trooper than me. He was probably out there a total of 5 hours. After a while and a change of clothes, I did start to warm up.

Once game started, I only did my opening module which was very cool before heading to bed for the night. Favorite parts of the event include: Elshea's assistance though her connection to the Gloaming, searching for Alchemy with a certain crow, a farm woman who needed advice, the shackled fight, telling stories with all the old folks of Shadowfane including my dear bitsyboo and ravensgrace , many many many games of SHUT THE BOX!, getting to see my Patriarch for a bit, and actually waking up early enough to enjoy people in the morning prior to breakfast.

I had hoped to dash back home to Her Fluffiness, but when game ended, there was much assistance necessary for those that did not have a buff vehicle like Snowflake. So, I spent the next three hours shuttling people to cars and then their stuff to their cars. It was an important thing to do, but it was frustrating to bring someone's stuff to their car and watch them drive away while I had to return to camp to bring someone else's stuff up to the main highway. By the end of it, I was pretty tired of it all and my car's fuel tank was empty. Happily, we were able to get a gas station without incident. Which is not at all to say that I don't enjoy helping out, it was just frustrating at the time since I did not get to really chat about game or go out to eat since we had to return swiftly home, but rather worked worked worked. But hey, that's what it means to be part of a community, right? And I really did appreciate that outlawblade gave everyone kudos who helped out. Even something so small as a kind word makes one feel like their work has been acknowledged.
