just in case anyone was still unaware that we are living in science fiction.

also, between this and this, i think that Dean Kamen has pretty successfully gotten out from under the Segway debacle.

(thanks to skincage for pointing out the article at Wired)

freaking awesome.

i'd seen earlier stuff on the prosthetic arms (though it's further along than when i saw it). the water thing is new to me.

oh, and because, one does not often get an opportunity to post one's painting of various cyber limbs...

however, i suspect that Luke Hand will come before Battle Hand, if the latter even occurs at all.

power armor is much more likely.

That's awesome, thanks for pointing me at it. (Also, invisibility cloaks! Jet pack suits!)

sadly, invisibility cloaks are not as cool as previously advertised.

jet pack suits, though, are still full of awesome.

since we have flying cars (even though they are impractical at this point), food pills, and ray guns, that just leaves a city in a building (which we are pretty close to with things like the Las Vegas Strip, the +15 Skyway in Calgary, and such) and lunar and orbital colonies, i think.

and, of course, the ISS is on the verge of an orbital colony.

Want - to play - SHADOWRUN!!! O_o

That's some of the coolest prosthetic stuff I've seen in a while. The modular aspect is really cool. Though that made me imagine Death's Head (original, human size) style hand swapping XD

Also, I don't think I can even imagine how cathartic that was for the man testing out the arm. I like how lighthearted he was able to be in his comment at the end, too.

completely gives the lie to the idea in Cyberpunk (and, to a lesser extent, in Shadowrun) that prosthetics make people somehow less human, n'est-ce pas? though, perhaps, one could make a case that better-than-human prosthetics might do so, à la Joe Haldeman's short story "More Than the Sum of His Parts".

when i was at the Denver convention center there were segways all over the place. the DCC was so huge it was the best way to get around in crowds.

the device isn't so bad, within its limited area of usefulness. the problem with the Segway was how it was initially presented. it was attributed far too much for what it was (all of the "it will change the way humans interact with their environment!" sort of nonsense). as a result, the actual product was such a letdown that it killed most potential interest from general users.
