We don't have an apartment, I'm still living with my parents, and saving money as fast as I can.
She could stay here, (in Canada) but she'd be unable to work (legally) and wouldn't have any health care. Citizenship and Immigration would also want to know why she couldn't stay in the States until she was granted Permanent Residence. There, she has state health care, and a job at a library, which she's reasonably happy with. The plan is for both of us to save like fiends (how well do fiends save? Are they frugal?) until she comes over here.

what's the plan now? Canada? Hawaii?

The plan now is Canada. Which means a wait of roughly 8 1/2 months for the paperwork to be processed.
