Event planning: Jewelry party

May 26, 2011 09:06

So as I mentioned in my other journal, this is the week of Things Falling Apart. My phone's okay (thank fuck), but I may be looking at some dental work and major car work in the upcoming while. Bah, humbug.

This means that I want to sell some goddamn jewelry.

Etsy is just not a good venue for me. It's extremely high-maintenance, and requires a ( Read more... )

Seems like a reasonable plan. It may also be wotrth considering con vending (zrealm may have opinions here too).

I would be more than happy to talk about cons, but they're definitely not for everyone. The con lifestyle is rough :-)

There's also a craft fair out here in a few weeks that might have space available and should have decent turnout (you're welcome to stay at my place)

You know, something like that would be awesome if combined with a costume tag sale/swap...

I keep beginning, in my mind, a mock-how-to on getting big in the jewelry world, and step one is "be independently wealthy". Etsy is ridiculous, and in the four? years I've been there, my sales have been very few in number until this year, when all of a sudden I've sold like 16 pieces. I just haven't been able to find better alternatives until recently, art shows and cons aside.

I wish I could be there for the trunk show party! I hope it's excellent. :)

I note that there are a couple of jewelry vendors in the Kendall Square Farmer's Market on Wednesdays. It might be worth your while to chat one of them up and ask how business is. I wonder if there might be other small business crafters who might go in with you on a table at a farmer's market. The Belmont one is on Thursdays until October, and yesterday was only the second week of the Kendall Square one.

I'm not local so obviously can't come to the party, but I wanted to tell you good luck with your plans. I still wear the piece I got from you on a very regular basis and adore it. I hope you'll take a few photos to share on your journal of pieces you like, because you do make beautiful pieces.

I dunno if this is a long-shot or not, but maybe if you had any spare time, inspiration, and materials that would work, maybe you could make a few Myst-inspired pieces and bring them to Mysterium as prizes and sales items? Y'know, maybe something where the colors and design reminds you of D'ni, or Age-inspired pieces, or something? I'm sure I'm not the only Myst fan who would think that was awesome.
