Yeah, still dysfunctional.

Question for those of you who have dealt with Massachusetts unemployment services - So they have this thing where you have to make two job contacts a week to keep your benefits. What level of "job contact" counts? "I emailed my resume to two people on Craigslist" or "I got myself two interviews that didn't go horribly"? ( Read more... )

Applying to jobs counts; networking with potential employers counts; going to the Career Center counts. Interviews definitely count. Anecdotally? I have never once had anyone ask to see my work search log, and I've spent more than my share of time dealing with DUA.

I live in a different state, but. (I bet it's the same for this sort of thing.) I had to do unemployment for about two months of my seven-month-long-weekend, and the "job contacts" required were just as stated -- emailing a resume in is fine. You have contacted them in order to inquire about a job. If you get an interview out of that, then great, but an interview was not a requirement as a job contact.

(They also made it easy to do the weekly application-for-benefit-check online, which was great for me.)

I had a "you've been selected randomly to go talk to an unemployment counselor", who further verified that yes, that was all that was required.

(I have a separate rant about how crazy-making cover letters can be. I wrote individualized ones for each place I applied to. HAHAHA OH BOY. I hope you're not having to do too many of those.)

All of those things that jadasc said, with the addendum that I think it's three a week, not two.

I believe emailing resumes counts as a work search contact. And yeah, ditto, they've never asked to see my log.
