I have given the forwarding address @pobox.com as my address of record since 1999 or so. It's more or less zero-maintenance and very low cost, and the package comes with website forwarding and provides an extra layer of spam filtering too. I think they have other services these days; I haven't looked in years. It has forwarded to gmail since 2005, but if I ever wanted to change that it would be trivial, and putting it out there as my address of record means that that record need never change with my choice of provider.
