[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Lain Iwakura
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Fandom: Serial Experiments Lain
Timeline: Right after Episode 8
History:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_Experiments_Lain Character Personality: Lain's personality is split into three, very distinct personalities.
Lain of the Real World is quiet, and painfully shy. Unassuming, it's easy to completely overlook her as no one special. She doesn't go out of her way to make friends, and seems spacey and awkward when around people. She doesn't know how to connect with people much, especially not her peers who seem far more advanced than she is in many aspects of life. She's a nervous girl, easily manipulated, and fairly antisocial.
Lain of Cyberia is the personality that shows the most emotions. She's all the emotions that Normal Lain doesn't normally show. She gets angry, she yells; she's also extremely friendly and finds it very easy to make friends. She's questioning and curious, and is the personality that gets things done. She won't hesitate to tell you when you're doing something wrong, and usually has several ideas on the fly.
Lastly is Lain of the Wired. This personality is all evil; she cares only for chaos and hurting others. She'll find your deepest, darkest secrets and tell everyone, then sit back and watch your reputation and your life fall to tatters around you. Laughing the entire time.
While Normal Lain is aware of the presences of Evil and Bold Lain, she spends most of her time actively trying to pretend that they aren't there. She just wants to be normal--and having someone take over your body every once in a while is definitely NOT normal. It distresses her whenever she comes around and realizing she's completely missed hours to days of her life with no memory of what happened. Whenever she's told what her Bold or Evil self has done, she's always horrified--mostly because they've done it with HER body, and because the things that they do can make her look bad, being the main or 'host' personality.
Bold Lain, while she regards Normal Lain with a sense of exasperation and disappointment (she wishes Normal Lain would stand up for herself more), she is always coming to her defense. When someone starts asking too many questions about Lain's life, stressing her out, scaring her, or otherwise pushing her into uncomfortable or distressing territory, Bold Lain pushes her way out and takes over in order to save her. She defends Normal Lain against anything that Normal Lain can't handle. When it comes to Evil Lain, there is a lot of hate. She can't stand the things Evil Lain does, especially because Evil Lain shares the same face and gives them a bad name. In fact, the first time the two personalities met, Bold Lain attacked and attempted to strangle Evil Lain.
This brings about another interesting point that, with the three of them now sharing one body, when Evil and Bold Lain fight, it appears to outsiders as though Lain is arguing with herself, using different voices as she does; and when the two fight, it looks like Lain hurting herself.
Evil Lain does not love, nor hate. She's in it for the chaos, although her main goal seems to be to to isolate Lain. She lashes out particularly at anyone who gets close to Lain and trying to drive them off. So long as there is chaos and terror, Evil Lain is happy.
Character Abilities: In canon, Lain is God. She has complete power over every mind and everything that goes with it. She can rewrite history, 'delete' memories or people, and basically do whatever the hell she feels like.
In SC, she's being turned into a normal human on her way in, so when she arrives, she's just like every average person. She has no special skills, other than being a first-class hacker and highly intelligent. She learns extremely quickly and holds information like a sponge.
Character Weaknesses: Whenever one of her other personalities is in control, Normal Lain has no idea what's happening; while she knows all three are there, she has to be told what happened while one of the others were in control. Bold Lain and Evil Lain are always aware of what Normal Lain and each other does.
Bold Lain is over confident
Normal Lain is easily manipulated and needy
and Evil Lain is reckless--she'd have no problem running into traffic just to watch the panic.
[ WEAPON SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Weapon: Lain is far too unstable to be able to use someone else as a weapon; coupled with her physical frailty, she wouldn't be able to swing a sword or shoot a gun wihtout causing more injury to herself.
What is your character's Weapon form?: Since in SEL, Lain is connected to everyone via. the Wired/computers, it's only appropriate that she become a computer for her weapon form. A small, hand-held computer that's similar to the communicators everyone carries around. It's compact, sleek, and easily fitting into a pocket or bag. She can project holograms of her and her personalities, so all three can interact with people (at the moment she's only able to project 3 holograms), and there's a helpful little Lain avatar on the screen to help whoever's using her.
She can work defensively to cloak her meister, either from view or from radars/electronics or people that sense heat. She can make it appear that her meister is in more places than one, jumping around, or that there are multiple versions of them (via the holograms).
She works offensively by being able to cause malfunctions to other electronics, jamming signals and radars, or hacking into communicators and other computers in order to steal files and information, or corrupting and injecting viruses.
But this isn't without big drawbacks. If Lain works too hard, or too long, she will 'shut down' and be offline for up to 3 hours, leaving her meister weaponless. And while the chances of hacking her are slim to none, it's still possible to try and hack her and 'fight' her that way; though it's unlikely you'll get through, it's easier to tire her out this way and force her offline quicker.
Weaknesses and strengths in this form also depends heavily on which personality is in control at the time.
Normal Lain is primarily defense, and any offensive works she does will be extremely weak-willed and not be on a big scale. They might barely leave a scratch.
Bold Lain is nicely balanced between the three--she works alright equally defensively and offensively, but she works better with jamming frequencies and stealing information, with her weakest being in cloaking.
Evil Lain has almost no defensive skills and is the most risky in terms of use. She's best at viruses and making other machines malfunction, and it's easiest to electronically attack or hack Lain when this personality is in control.
Her biggest offense attack is a wave of electricity she can send out to injure the opponent. The force of the wave depends heavily on which personality is in control as well. If it were an RPG, Normal Lain's wave would do something like 10 points minimum damage, possibly only a mild shock, enough to sting. Bold Lain would do something around 50 points, enough to stun or immobilize, and Evil Lain would do the highest amount of damage.
[ SOUL INFORMATION ]
Soul Description: With three distinct personalities now sharing one body upon entering Death City, her soul changes a little bit depending on which personality is in control.
Normal Lain: -Quiet
-Timid
-Calm
Bold Lain: -Outgoing
-Energized
-Curious
Evil Lain: -Cruel
-Sadistic
-Sinister
All three souls share the following characteristics: - Intelligent
- Observant
- Resourceful
Soul Appearance: They all share the same soul, obviously, but the color changes slightly depending on who's in control. Normal Lain's soul is an off-white color, Bold Lain's has a grayish tone to it, and when she's Evil Lain it has a darker tint.
The soul looks like there's wires wrapped around it.
[ SAMPLES ]
First Person: [The communicator is switched to voice, and for a long minute there is nothing but silence. When it breaks, the speaker's voice is quiet and polite]
My name is Lain. Lain Iwakura. I'm from Japan.
Um...I'm very pleased to meet you. [The voice clicks off, and a second later, it switches back on. Suddenly Lain's voice sounds a bit more upbeat]
Hey, since we're all in the same situation, let's be friends! Tell me about yourselves!
Third Person: They were fighting again, and she could do nothing but watch.
In the darkest corner of her mind, where she retreated when things got too much, there was a bed; the same bed she'd had back home, all made up nice and neat; little stuffed animals sat on the pillow, watching the argument unfold.
Two Lains stood near-by, the third lay curled up on the bed, pressing her face into the pillow. 'Make it stop...'
The one is yelling, lashing out, hitting the other who is laughing and laughing, and laughing. It echoes and curls around her ears, making her press her face further into the pillow. The hits that land on the others' body will appear tomorrow morning on her body; once again she'll be forced to either cover up or try to explain to the probing eyes that it was herself that put them on her.
And that never ended well. The laughter rises higher, piercing, and the Lain on the bed begins to weep.
'I just want to be normal!'
[ NOTES ] Nothing I can think of at the moment, though I will have to make a post for permissions about Lain's hack, since TECHNICALLY nothing is 'unhackable' for her, I'll have to ask that people warn me to tell me if they def. don't want Lain hacking them AT ALL and such.
