Keep in mind that even the word "technology" didn't exist in any form when the Bible was written. Also, that forms of technology, or outside thinking, were considered unholy and therefore punishable. Do you really think that anyone who spoke their mind about these sorts of beliefs went unharmed? Of course not. Science was scary, and therefore evil.
Consider Scientology. As crazy as it is, it most definately is a religion that deals with technology. A religion that is not obsolete, deals with extraterrestrial life.
You think about the possibilities of cyber-life because of the age and place you live in. Try placing yourself back before the renaissance, you wouldn't think the same way and you know it. You would have no idea what "virtual reality" is.
Religion, no matter its form, is not obsolete. You can see how it's evolved over time into less strict-rules-to-live-by and more of a way of thought. Religion, no matter its form, will continue to evolve and change, along with our technology.
