First things first.

So I'm back in Savannah, the trip down went fine. There was a lot of hassle moving in, since I arranged a roommate switch right when I got there. Everything/everyone is all settled in now, for the most part ( Read more... )

Great, so you guys are working on creating your own level but what's your timeframe? Is this going to turn into another level that you're almost done with but just not quite and so it will sit forever in limbo, taking up space on your computer but not being used by anyone other than yourself?

If you guys really think you're teacher's an idiot than why not ask other students if they feel the same way? Maybe more had a similar idea of the class and are also disappointed, then you guys could all ask your professor why you can't create a level like you expected.

Just a thought.

ah yes, hieronymi. i had him for programming for interactivity as well. he's... yeah. yeah. um, sorry to tell you this maybe too late, but did you know that you could substitute C++ for that class?? sorry, you should have queried earlier, as i wish i had as well. bah.

evironment and level design, eh?? so then you'll have cookson, am i right?? yeah, don't question his ability - dude knows unrealed like it's nobody's business. see, what they've begun doing actually is splitting up the original level design class into two, where in the first you actually build the models and stuff, and the second class is actually importing them. they do this now because to try and do it all in 10 weeks is ridiculous, and an UNBELIEVABLE amount of work. but the good news is that by the time you get to the next one, hopefully unreal3 will come out and y'all can use that engine.

and hey, do you have a grad student in your environment class?? because if you do that's my roommate. his name is blair.

Oh I knew I could take C++, but I thought learning actionscript would be more fun. And easier. I'm not much for programming.

Well if he knows UnrealEd so well, I wish he'd actually teach us how to use it.
I'm just bitter because I was looking forward to that class and having a complete level to show off by the end of it. Instead it's just another modeling class. Which I really disagree with. There's a ton of other modeling classes to choose from, so I don't think there should be a lot of modeling involved in this class. Rather, it should be about building level architecture that is suitable for a certain type of game. I understand their reasoning about not teaching the Editor for Unreal 2004, since it's outdated, but I'd much rather learn that than just do everything in 3DS Max, because that's not how it's done in the industry. Even if I just learned UnrealEd for 2004, later it'd be easier to pick up Unreal 3, instead of starting from nothing.

And yes, Blair is in that class too.
