JUST A LITTLE GATHERING IN COLOGNE

Mar 29, 2015 18:33

I attended the Con in Cologne on March 20-22. It started out as just a gathering of fans who had attended some of Cons but then Elke got Randy to commit to attend. Once he was signed, she decided to get Dean Armstrong who played Blake and Makyla Smith Deleo who played Daphne to attend which made for a very different but lively event.

Thanks, Carolyn.

The interaction between Randy and Makyla after 10 years was lovely to behold. They had a great time together.

Hi, Dixie! How I wish I could have been there. Thanks for taking the time, though, to write about it. I appreciate that so much. Looking forward to seeing you in Austin. *Hugs* ~Kim

Hi Kim,

I was sure you would be there. It was a really great experience. Yes, Austin is on the horizon. I see that Peter will also be there for The Fosters and the cast of Justified will be there too. Love me some Timothy Olyphant.

You have no idea just how badly I wanted to! But it was not a good time for me to get away from my job. If I had only known what a disaster taking two days off to visit the KMKM in January turned out to be, I WOULD have been there. Sigh...very disappointing to not go. But glad you had a good time.

Hi, I have no words to explain how much I enjoyed reading your experience in Cologne. Many many thanks!!! Makyla as Daph was and is my favourite female character, for that reason I so wanted to be there..but too short notice and I couldn't make it. Your post is a great thing for me, because we knew so few about the side cast members. I'm glad Makyla (and Dean too) are doing so well with their life.. following their real dreams in private life and in their jobs.

Just a question I wanted to ask to you, is there any chance Makyla could want to open a twitter account maybe for fans? I guess no..but I had to ask if maybe the subject came up :)

I'm glad it was such a good time for all of you and for the guests.. I hope they will be more in touch now and for the future :)
Thanks again, you and all the girls who shared their pics are amazing! <3
hugs, Rose

Thank you Rose.

I don't know of anyone who didn't love Daphne and Makyla is just as lovable. I told her and her husband how much the fandom loved her character and wished she had been in the show more.

I don't know much about twitter so I didn't talk to her about it but she did say she would let us know when Evelyn arrived probably through an e-mail to Elke or someone who would post it.

I loved reading this, Dixie. Thanks so much for posting everything you remembered. Sounds like you all had such a great time with the con being so small and intimate.

Interesting to find out that Dean is such a cutup. LOL I'm glad you guys at his dinner table were having a fun time. I can just imagine Randy's table - pretty much like it was for us at the L.A. con. Everyone so quiet and polite, taking turns talking to him and him not adding much on his own.

The web series with Jenn sounds good. I hope it gets financed and sees the light of day. How great to read that Randy and Makyla had such a fun time together remembering things about filming QAF when you guys were supplying the prompts! LOL

Thanks for this post!

Hugs,
Linda

Ha, Linda,

You're right about Randy's table in L.A. I forgot about that. Polite and low key while Dean was the life of the party and enjoying making fun of the "little" salad that was served with our entrees. We called our table the "fun table" and we had lots of it.

I'm sorry that you don't seem to have had a good time at Randy's table in L.A., but as you weren't there in Cologne, how can you judge? No, it wasn't 'quiet and polite' at all and no one 'took turns talking to him'. In fact we were a group of friends who mostly hadn't seen each other for a while and so we were chatting away, mainly about one friend's wedding. Randy just took part like in any group. We weren't even particularly quiet, just normal. The next day Randy started talking before he even sat down as he was so eager to go on with out talk. Same at the winery.

I don't think Linda meant she didn't enjoy Randy's table in L.A. I know she did because she is a big Randy fan and engaged him in conversation about dance and ballet. I didn't mean to imply that his table was not having a good time but that it was very different from ours where hilarity ensued thanks to Dean.

Also it was a private room with small tables at opposite ends so conversations could be had while in Bilbao last year there were two big tables side by side in a small room with Gale and Randy's fans jammed in and so much noise only those next to them could hear what was being said. It was pretty much a disaster.

Oh, Dixie... I am so happy you went to the Mini-Con and had such a wonderful time! It sounds like it was a truly special event! And to share the event with so many friends I'm sure made it that much more special.

I didn't realize that this was a reunion for Randy & Makayla. I'm sure that was awesome to watch. It's funny that you mentioned the duet that Randy sang for a new composer. That was at the Metropolitan Room on March 9th. There's a link to the video of his song on my LJ page. I'm glad he is enjoying creating, but I hope that doesn't mean we'll see less of him in the theater.

I have already started saving my pennies in the hopes that Toronto event actually happens!

Trish,

I felt sure that this was the event you went to but I didn't want to put it in the report since I wasn't sure. I did watch your video.

I hope that the Toronto event comes about since it's such a great place to visit and there used to be lots of places to see where scenes were filmed. Some are probably gone by now but still it may draw some of the cast back to where it all began.
