BILBAO REDUX

Apr 06, 2014 00:54

Last week I travelled once again from Pittsburgh to Bilbao to attend a convention. Last year’s Showtime Con was for meeting Gale Harold again since he was unable to attend the Cologne Rise ‘n’ Shine Convention the previous year. This time it was a QAF Convention with the “Big Four”, Gale, Randy, Peter and Scott.

This is a great report, Dixie! I loved reading all the details again. It sounds like the schedule was jam packed and you guys had to do a lot of running around to catch all the different things you'd paid for.

I thought it was beautiful of Gale to come back to you at the dinner table and say he had to leave but that he'd talk to you the next day. Just curious - did he make a point of finding you the next day and give you some individual time?

Brilliant of you to ask them the James Lipton questions. Randy wanting to hear St. Peter say his mom's waiting with a bottle of wine is about the sweetest thing I've ever heard. Every mother would be honored to hear her son say that about her.

I'm glad you got to go to the con and had such a great time. We were anxiously waiting to hear from you, and the moment that first email came in it was like a feeding frenzy of info! LOL

Hugs,
Linda

Thanks Linda,

No, I didn't get a personal chat with Gale and I really didn't expect to. I was just happy that he acknowledged me and made a point to come back and tell me he had to leave. I did talk to him in the M&G's and coffees and when I got my photos and autographs. There really wasn't any more chances like being at the dinner table. I got to sit next to him and his sister last year and talk with them so this was okay.

The comment about his mom really touched me and he didn't have to think about it. When I asked the questions I said that I would ask Randy first so Gale would have time to think and he comes up with "I found your notebook". It was actually another fan who asked the final Pearly Gates question after I asked about the words.

Love it, thank you so much. Love the part when Randy said Justin should pass away and Gale continued by saying Brian should carry his ashes around. LOL. I could just imagine Gale and Randy's face at that time. LOL
Wow, I didn't know Randy did audition for Looking. What a shame he didn't got any part. Awwww.....

Thank you. It would have been fun to suddenly find our Justin Taylor among the Looking men. I imagine that his role in QAF was a factor in his not getting a part.

I forgot about "cunt" - I mean, I've forgotten a thousands things, not only this, so please tell me how do you manage to remember so much?
Anyway, "cunt" being a favorite curse word for gay men - there must be some truth in it. I only ever read this word before in 2 books written by gay men and was, after looking for it in my dictionary, surprised....

Thanks so much for this report, DiGi! ❤️

Hey Pet,

I began by taking a few notes and then gave up so most of my comments came from those or a quick jot when I heard something I wanted to remember for my report.

So cunt is in the dictionary. I never looked but it would have been a foreign word for you and I imagine that you have a derogatory German word for it. You don't really hear it a lot in the movies or on cable TV but I know people who use it. When Emmett called Melanie a cunt, I cringed. Curse words don't bother me and I was surprised that Gale didn't say fuck or fucking which is my favorite curse word and one that he uses in conversation because he is fanfuckintastic!

You know, it's funny, when The Lord Of The Rings came out first and the actors were telling background stories, it wa all cunt this and cunt that. They even called the Winnebago they used between takes the' cuntebago'. Ever since, that word has nearly lost its meaning for me.

In my experience, "cunt" is used a lot (a LOT) by British people (and I include
English, Scots, and Irish), but in the U.S. it's still in the "n" word category of
something you just do NOT say unless you want the house to fall on you.
You especially don't say it in front of women unless you want an earful.
That said, a lot of gay men I know like to use it, perhaps to be contrary,
but I never let it pass.

Oh my Susi, how we missed you. I was looking forward to seeing you again. I was so sorry you couldn't make it and hope you are feeling better. Your place card for the dinner was next to Pet with Pam and me and we would have drunk wine and laughed a lot.

I hope I get to see you again. Take care of yourself.

I'm really sure we will get to see each other again. I was soooo disappointed when the doctor told me I wasn't allowed to fly but my health goes before everything, even Gale ;) Right now I get to enjoy some wonderful reports and I'm really happy about that.
