RANDY DROPS THE BOMB IN ATOMIC

Aug 01, 2014 19:47

A few months ago I was arranging a trip to New York with some friends to see Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig and the Angry Inch and was looking around for some other plays to see while there. I had wanted to see Tyne Daly in Mothers and Sons but we had settled on July 22-25 for our trip and her show closed in early July. During this time, the news ( Read more... )

I had a lovely time visiting with you at the show! One of the reasons I will see Randy's plays so many times is the fun of viewing it with so many friends! I am actually taking Mom to the matinee tomorrow...

I knew you would love Hedwig! It is one of the best shows I have seen recently... although I did finally get to see Book of Mormon this week, and it certainly lived up to all the hype!

Hope to see you again soon!

I give you big props for sitting through this one over and over even to be with friends. I also am delighted to see you when I come to NY to see Randy's shows and I enjoyed our after theatre gathering.

Hedwig left me speechless. NPH dancing and prancing all over the stage in drag and belting out songs was so much fun to watch and the audience sure loves him.

The Book of Mormon is coming to Pittsburgh soon but I'm not sure I will get the chance to see it. Maybe when I come to NY to see The Elephant Man.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on the show. It's wonderful to read about friendships that began with the QAF fandom. It seems that its common for Randy not to greet fans after shows…do you ever get discouraged?

Oh…my hubby and I went to see Hedwig on April 30 (and May 2nd) and we LOVED it!. Neil was amazing, as was Lena Hall…and both came out to meet fans after the show. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Coincidentally, we saw BoM (May 1st) as well and it was phenomenal!

No, by now I don't expect to see Randy after his shows unless it's a rare occasion. The after parties in the Berkshires have been the exception. I have seen him many, many times over the years and I get to see him and talk to him at the Cons so I really don't need to have any more pictures or autographs. It would just be nice to tell him that I enjoyed the show but it isn't necessary.

We did wait awhile to see NPH but it took a long time and Lena had come out and I imagine he was waiting for her to get through signing and picture taking. We weren't where we would get a chance to see him up close as we were across the street and people were lined up behind the barricades so we left but I know he comes out to see the fans as do most Broadway stars in my experience.

Sounds like you had a great NY adventure too.

Reading your post title, "Randy drops the bomb," I thought you meant that he made some kind of momentous personal announcement that night.

Glad we can all count on your to follow and share reports of Randy's career!

Ha Ha!

I was going to title it Randy bombs in Atomic but knew people would get the wrong idea. Yes, I will continue to follow the plays I can get to not only because he always gives a great performance but because of the other fans and friends I see there.

Hello my friend. Happy birthday for the 29th. Sorry it's late but our internet has been missing this week and I've been busy with proofing and RL family stuff.

I've seen Hedwig twice in Australia with Iota as the lead. He is amazing. Google him. Such a talent. I'd love to see NPH as I'm sure he'd be fantastic. I'm a huge Carole King fan and have Tapestry on vinyl as you probably do. Have played it thousands of times. Must put that on the list if it's on next year. Slim chance hubby and I may be coming to the USA next year. Fingers crossed. Lots of hugs.

Have you heard if anyone else has signed for Madrid besides Randy?

Hi there BigJ,

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I never heard of Iota, a one-namer? Yes, I do have Tapestry on vinyl but haven't played it in years so I bought the CD and also the Beautiful cast CD at the show.

I haven't heard of anyone signing but Randy. If no one else signs, I won't be going unless of course a lot of my friends go and it's a chance to see them. I am just waiting to see what happens.

Good to hear from you. I think of you often.

Iota is an Aussie so that's prob why you've never heard of him.

I won't be going if there's no one else at the Con. We'll be going O/S next year but don't know if it will be Europe or America. I think of you often too. We should skype? I have a new computer now that doesn't need headphones or speakers to skype so it's so much easier. Hugs.

I'm glad you had a fun night, despite the so-so play, Atomic!

I've been thinking about seeing Beautiful or Kinky Boots in the fall as Dave and I have been the offer of the Broadway show of our choice as a gift from my MIL. What do you think? Have you seen both?

Hi Carolyn,

It's always fun to see other fans and talk about the play. I haven't seen Kinky Boots but I highly recommend Beautiful if you like Carole King's music. As soon as the band started the overture, I said, "I love it already". Her life story is interesting and Jessie Mueller won a well deserved Tony and Jarrod Spector who plays Barry Mann was Frankie Valli in Jersey Boyz on Broadway for a long time. The other cast members are great too. I loved it.
