What is St. John's Wort normally used for? I read today that it is as effective at combating depression as some prescription antidepressants- crazy! Although it also has drug interactions- I forget if it's my birth control pill or my antibiotics, or some other drug I've taken, but I remember reading that it was bad to take St John's Wort at the ( Read more... )

I started on St. John's Wort last year to combat stress-related depression and it started to help, then I started to have my period every day for two months, which just made me depressed again because I couldn't have sex because I was bleeding all the time. Even if I could have sex, I would have been stressed that I would end up pregnant because the stuff renders birth control almost completely ineffective. So then I stopped taking it. I'm better now (I think).

I'm going to the clinic at our school for stress-management therapy :p It's helped a LOT, and it's really affordable, and I'm not dependent on any substances but caffeine:) well, that and the birth control pill... if that counts as dependence. :p
