She is too generous for her own good. But yeah, it is very nice of her to contribute.

cat-in-a-sack in Hungarian because the buyer doesn't know in advance what s/he's gonna buy.

Sounds like the equivalent of the English expression about buying "a pig in a poke"! Also sounds like a fun little item--I'm sure the receivers will enjoy them!

it still makes me a bit uncomfortable

I can understand your feeling that way; it makes perfect sense to me. Yet I'm sure you are doing them a kindness by accepting, because it makes them feel good to contribute something. I hope that makes sense!

I recognise that sort of friend, who is so kind that they give at least as many ingredients as you use to make gifts for them.

paired up the cookies that need egg yolk only with the ones that need egg white only;
When D-d was younger we always made chocolate rum truffles to give as Christmas gifts - and this meant there were always peppermint creams, too :)

ETA; meant to say how I like the name " cat-in-a-sack" - it is much more fun than the British equivalent "lucky dip".

That goulash sounds yummy. There is something about 'Mum's' cooking, isn't there? It always feels comforting to eat.

Definitely. Only that it used to be Grandma's cooking, for many decades. Still, Mum can better recreate the taste in our memory than I.

I´d love to have a friend like Elise! Mine usually say thanks then leave.

Oh, she is certainly a jewel - a rare one at that. Most of mine do the same as yours.
