I was working late on my own in the lab this evening, after a long day, concentrating hard on what I had to do. The setting sun cast a gloomy shadow across the bench. The only sound was the gentle hum of machinery; perhaps the distant drip of a tap.

and then

....a hitherto unnoticed bluebottle flew into my ear. Faaaaacck!!! I nearly hit the ceiling...
