I've really surprised myself actually. I started off running a minute and walking a minute, and building up the running minutes till I could do 4-5 fairly reliably, and 10 ( Read more... )

*Exchanges cyber cheerleading outfit for hugs and hot soup*

The lurgy is here too, and has turned the "Big Push" on the Room into more of a lean. :-(

See you in Wales (?)

*how a sock can be cardio-specific*

The same way that a foot massage does wonders to the rest of your body...

Get well soon.

And I thought I was posh running to the pub, amazing what the promise of beer can do.

I'd love to be able to run for 2.5 miles, roughly the distance I walk every day from home to work. Do you have any tips? Should I get Anatomical socks too?

I'd give the socks a miss, frankly....!

I have been running at about 6 miles an hour, which is a usefully round number and at that speed would take you 25 mins to run to work. I started out doing about that distance, but alternating running and walking. Although one good tip that Rachel gave me was rather than starting off fast and having to stop and walk, to start off more gently and then when you get puffed to slow right down but keep jogging, then speed up again when you recover. Have something to eat like a banana soon after you finish, and do plenty of stretches. I think if you're used to walking that distance and are generally quite fit you wouldn't have too much difficulty running that distance after a few sessions. The most important thing is to not worry about how much of a tit you look, which is possibly easier for me running in the wilds of rural Cambridgeshire than you running through Liverpool suburbs!
