The floating mountains would levitate magnetically, I assume, so there would have to be a very large quantity of magnetic ore in both the mountains and the ground beneath them. What would be in the snow to discolor it? Perhaps some microbe, or pollen - analog? Or would there be deserts from which dust frequently blows into the atmosphere and deposits with the snow?
The floating mountains remind me of the ones in Avatar. I imagine it would be beautiful. Hopefully we would appreciate it and not just go there to mine the unobtainium. Perhaps we would colonize it when interstellar travel is developed.
Thank you for taking the time out to reply to my imaginative and totally made up world! It's nice that someone else would consider living there! :)
I never saw Avatar but I'm big into SciFi and there are a few worlds in books I've read where a similar landscape was described. As to the snow, I'm more of sun and warmth kind of person so I figured colored snow would at least look better and would entice me to journey out into such cold. I just answered the question quick, but if i had time i would have went all egghead and come up with a logical explanation on how the colored snow would have been possible. I do not remember reading what your world would be like?
