Susan was actually saying to me on the way to groveland day that ppl hadn't realized that it was going to be september 11th and someone had asked her to have someone prepare the nat. anthem "just in case" and then susan forgot to tell someone and then i was like well i'll do it if necesarry and then no one said anything about it. YOu'd think the firefighters of all ppl would want to like recognize it. I was extremely suprised and i agree totally with you . I wish i had said something too. Love aub
I really don't think anyone forgot. I really don't. I mean, yeah it wasn't mentioned. But I know right when I heard we were doing this on September 11th, I had one of those "oh, wow" moments. Anytime you hear "9-11" or "September 11th" is strikes a chord in you, regardless of anything.
I think it was just that no one wanted to be the one to bring it up. Groveland Day is one of those celebrations of community, friends, and family. And 9-11 being a day filled with fear, sadness, and loss, it sort of went against the purpose of the event, so no one wanted to say anything.
It's like going to a funeral. No one actually says, "So, he's dead, huh?" or "Did you know that so-and-so is lying over there in a casket?" In that way, I feel like 9-11 was one of those things that everyone was aware of to some degree, but just didn't want to dwell on it, you know?
i understand what you mean, but i just wish something had been said. it totally is associated with loss and sadness, but those feelings shouldn't be forgotten. events in history, no matter how much associated with those feelings, can't and shouldn't be forgotten or overlooked. i mean, i shouldn't generalize and say everyone forgot, because you're right...i'm sure people did remember. i don't know, something just felt like it was missing.
Hey ali, i haven't talked to you in forever!! but anyways...
I just thought id let you know a few thing that might make you feel a little better...
At my school they observed a moment of silence at the end of the day on friday and we are having a rememberence assembly next friday. On TV a channel devoted the entire day to 9/11 rememberence And i went to a BC football game and they had three cadets come out on the field with our flag and had a moment of silence before kick-off... And im sure there was a lot happening in NY
So, i just wanted to let you know that there are people and places that are remembering that day and im glad that you are too.
I was thinking the same thing, actually. I mean, especially with the fire fighters like holding everything. Sure, they weren't personally in danger during September 11th, but I was like... is something going to be said?
