You know, I love Jack Kerouac -- I think he was an amazing writer and he certainly represented the nomadic, just-get-up-and-go lifestyle. But, upon reading about him lately, I've determined that he was an asshole. A huge asshole, actually. Primarily because he had a daughter, Jan, who he completely abandoned. She met him twice -- and the second ( Read more... )

Hey Jenn, I don't know if you got my message but here is the gist of it:
I was at work, so I didn't get your message until 6-ish, and when I called no one was home (and I tried a few more times during the night), so I went out to dinner with my girlfriend's family. What are you doing tonight though? Call me back on my cell phone so I'm sure to get it, 447-7354.

yeah, that's where the 600 people thing comes in for me.
In fact, I'm sure my system is fatally flawed because I respect dead people who were probably total assholes in their time.
Fucking 20/20 hindsight.
You're a contemporary AND someone I actually know, and you've still got oodles of respect.
Now that's saying something.
I'm not sure what, but boy, is it ever!

mm.

i spent the night looking up pictures of jack kerouac and stumbled upon his daughter. there was one website that showed her as a young girl next to him as a young man -- they looked so much alike! and yet, no matter how desperately she wanted to know him, he just didn't care. it breaks me to think that this man with such a lust for life couldn't even love his own daughter. it makes me question his status in my mind. *sigh* the romamntic rebel that he was -- to break from the establishment and be new and creative -- is almost completely negated by his inability to have empathy.

and... i've rambled too much. goodnight.
