Sometimes I hate that my headcanon post is longer than his app itself B'|
Fuck damnit CLAMP, if you cant finish the manga yet, give us some character bios so we wont have to keep walking in the dark.
THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS, POSSIBLY FOREVER.
✦ Kind of canon, yes, but "Kamui" did genuinely like Seishirou, parallel to the way Kamui likes Subaru. They connect in that deep sense only two guys with almost the same background and history can have. Seishirou is a bastard, "Kamui" is a bastard. Seishirou promised to kill Subaru, "Kamui" promised to kill Kamui. They were both on the same side. They had almost the same mindsets. "Kamui" respected the guy like he would a big brother.
✦ On the note of family, "Kamui" did think of Nataku as his own kid, and treated him as such. Not because it was Nataku's wish, but because he saw for himself just how pure and young Nataku was, and that endeared him to the kid. He wanted to keep Nataku his son forever, and so when he changed his wish to protect Karen, "Kamui" hated himself for a bit after killing him.
✦ No, "Kamui" doesn't think of Saya, Kyougo nor Kotori as family. He did address Kotori as 'that girl', which means he doesn't think of her as anyone other than a very important person to the real Kamui, and an undeveloped dreamseer whom he killed.
✦ He may be cool and cordial with Seishirou, he may be warm, kind and patient with Nataku, but the only person he's never, ever harmed (except with words), and was completely gentle with was Kakyou. He's patient, he's kind, he's comforting, he's everything for Kakyou not only because he needs Kakyou to remain loyal to him, but because he can tell all the pain of the man carries in his wish to die. It's a very whole-hearted wish, see, and because he cant die yet, "Kamui" does his best to make his days a little more bearable until he can finally grant that wish.
✦ Kid's got a case of split personality. I mean Fuuma as a whole. "Kamui" is "Kamui" aka who he is currently, and "Fuuma" is who he was before the awakening/Kamui's decision. In existence, "Kamui" was formed when Saya birthed his Shinken, but to be technical, he's only less than a year old, what with his awakening and all.
✦ "Fuuma"'s birthday is June 15, while "Kamui"'s awakening was on April 15. But "Kamui" celebrates his physical birthday, aka the former. While he's hasn't come across it officially yet (except in one game), he's sure to commemorate his awakening day alone by indulging more than usual.
✦ He's not evil. He may be disturbed-- he may be completely out of his mind at times, but evil is always a relative concept in CLAMP, and "Kamui" is no exception. He's simply mirroring what's hidden deep within Kamui, because he is the twin star, and so those traits? Are not necessarily his. But they complement him well, and he can go from bastard to amiable, and even mix and match any time he likes. That's what sets him apart from Kamui, an ability to stick some of Fuuma's old traits within those he channels.
✦ "Kamui" doesn't actively seek out blood. He's only personally killed a handful of people, and they're all connected to his destiny-- Dragons, or people in the know. Kotori, Saiki, Nataku... He killed them himself. Civilians? Are casualties of the kekkai he destroys. If he did go out and kill everyone who wanted to genuinely die within Tokyo, then I daresay there would be only a few people left to even witness the earthquakes caused by the destruction of the kekkai. He's never touched an innocent with murderous intentions.
✦ Names are everything in CLAMP. They define who you are, what you are, how your life is set out for you, so on and so forth. The name 'Kamui' can mean either "he who carries the majesty/power of the gods' or 'he who hunts/seeks the majesty/power of the gods'. "Kamui" here is the latter, which means he can be a godkiller. And to kill a god you need powers at least equal to theirs. That means he's just that powerful, if he'd ever try to let himself go :X Doubtful that he will, because he's got pride the size of earth, and he doesn't want to go completely batshit in exchange for some fun times with powers. He's got a lot of self-control, and that's what matters.
✦ To get him to throw away his pride for a little bit, offer him sweets. Ice cream if you can. Vanilla, and on a sugar cone, preferably. But the quickest way to turn him into a genuinely happy teenager is through sugar, because he has a sweet tooth that should be outlawed.
✦ He perceives wishes in a strange manner. He needs to see the person first, face-to-face, eye contact unnecessary. He can hear them within his mind, as if the person is speaking directly into him. He can tell details, if the wish is truly that detailed, but he cant tell "why", because it's just not in his power to do so. Not that he's interested.
✦ If he knows wishes from the earth's to the humans around him, of course he can sense animals' wishes as well. And he respects them for being themselves, different from humans. They live, they breathe, for today and worry about tomorrow when it comes. They're simple, and they're pure, and that's why he likes them.
✦ More on the powers and abilities department: he's got very good senses. And I mean very good. It's like someone on full-alert every single second of their lives-- he can literally hear a pin dropping from the next room, so on and so forth. Add that with the usual psychic abilities and... he's actually a scary, scary person to be around.
✦ "Kamui" likes being called names, from asshole to punk to bastard to what-have-you, because there are no barriers and no fake things on the other person's end, which is always a treat to see. Just as long as it's not "Fuuma", because it simply grates on his nerves. He accepts it grudgingly from Kamui, but he's "Kamui", damn it, and he hates living with the shadow of his other self. If someone somehow manages to learn that "Fuuma" is his other/previous self's name and decides to call him that, he'll correct them as politely as you please, and that's their only chance to rectify their 'mistake'. Subsequent usages of that term, even after being corrected, for any reason at all will be met with massive amounts of (controlled) hate.
✦ On that note, he likes being annoying to other people. He's the type to take a sneaky snapshot and run away with it, or even poke and prod and be a complete nuisance. To see the reactions of that kind of thing is amusing and gives him some satisfaction-- removing barriers.
✦ I mentioned this in his app already, but he has a lone scar just above his heart. It goes right through-- if you can see it from the front, you can see it from the back, because Kamui's hand went all the way through him. And it's the only one. He never keeps scars as battle trophies because he simply doesn't care for them. That bad head wound by Yuzuhira? Wiped away easily. But when Kamui stabbed him, he fought against his regenerative abilities to let it turn into scar tissue, because he wants to commemorate that day as the day he provoked Kamui into actually harming him. He only keeps scars if they have sentimental value.
✦ There's a reason why he keeps doing all of this, and not only because of destiny, but because he loves Kamui. I say "love", not "in love", because these are two wholly different things. It's not a romantic kind love, it's a very deep and somewhat twisted dedication. This is because perhaps Kamui has no feelings for himself, not even an ounce of pride for what he's doing so far, and so "Kamui" fills in the blanks, albeit in the most dangerous way. Let it be known that darkness plus love is not always the best thing in the world.
✦ You may be a sadist, but that doesn't mean you cant be a masochist too. "Kamui"'s the controlled type of masochist. Physical, and verbal abuse is fine by him. Mental and emotional? Good luck, they'll just bounce off of him. But if you push buttons, he'll start pushing yours back, and not in the fun way. That said... You may be rational, but that doesn't mean you cant be irrational as well.
✦ Don't mess with the hair, all I'm saying. Unless you're giving him a headrub, don't mess with it.
✦ It's kind of obvious, but he's a fashion freak. He likes things that will make him look good physically, short of having a tattoo or a piercing. His body will just reject those unless he actively fights his regenerative powers for those-- which he's usually lazy to do. On that note...
✦ He can be pretty lazy. He's like a panther, huge, dangerous when provoked and yet beautiful and mysterious at the same time. Except that it's a cat. And cats are still rather lazy.
✦ Sleeping kind of sucks around him. He hardly sleeps at normal hours, sometimes goes without sleep for days, and then makes up for it by sleeping like a dead person. For the exact number of days, too. No moving whatsoever either, since... well, that's how a dead person sleeps. His insomnia is epic.
✦ What happens when he's asleep? Nothing. He doesn't perceive dreams the way normal people do, namely because he's not as "normal" as far as the word goes for human beings. Instead of having his own dreams, he watches the dreams of others within his little protected space called his mind, or bothers Kakyou within his own dreams. What if he doesn't have Kakyou on hand? He simply shuts down like a computer. The basic functions are still there and keeping him alive, but he wont awaken until he deems it fit, aka his internal timer tells him to get up, or if there's an emergency.
✦ He's not exactly musically-inclined, but he does have some genres he enjoys. A bit of grunge, a bit of alternative, but hold the metal and the screaming, please. That just hurts his ears. Instrumentals are okay though, if they have good guitars/piano/violin scores. But he likes Santana, and probably will like Maroon 5. idk he's kind of out there. He doesn't make a habit of listening to music, so he's pretty far behind on the news.
✦ One reason why I'm kind of glad people cant get into his head: he has epic trains of thought that can last for days. He thinks things over, goes off on a tangent, thinks that over, goes off on another tangent, and he can go on like this for a very long time. Of course, he can hit pause and save it for a later time, but still. He's all over the place. It's a miracle he can find his way back to his original idea without much problem.
✦ Biggest thing of all? He's just a teenager. He's still very much like any young person out there who's trying to make sense of what's going on in his mind. Emotions? Right out the window because he cant understand them yet. Bodily functions are easier for him to take care of. He may be smart, he may know a person by just looking at their wishes, he may know so much stuff about philosophy, psychology, science, blah, blah, but he just doesn't get what those emotions are.
✦ The best way to communicate to him is through touch. He's more of a tactile learner than visual and auditory. He learns through touch (that's why he's such a touchy-feely kind of guy), and it's simply the best way to get through his roundabout way of talking because it feels good to establish physical contact with someone. Simply patting him on the shoulder will get him to make an almost-straight answer. I say almost, because you'll have to work harder than that to get a good, not-vague answer from him.
✦ "Kamui" likes kids. He's very fond of them, namely because when he sees their wishes, they're not like adults'. Their wishes are pure and selfless, and that's why he likes them. He spoils them, indulges them in what they want and turns into that nice big brother who plays with them. Sometimes, when he gets close to a kid, say they meet quite often, his fatherly demeanor starts to show, and he starts caring for them like they're his own.
✦ He takes what he wants, but gives something equal in return. Just... yeah, he takes what he wants. It's not often, but it does happen. If he doesn't get it, he pouts. And his pouts are epic.
✦ Also? He's not a liar. He may be a lot of things, may withhold relevant information or be vague as hell, or even go off on tangents to divert people's attention, but he doesn't lie.
✦ He hates movies. So if you're thinking of having a good time with him, don't bring him to a movie. He thinks those things are boring, and the ones that are not labeled as fantasy or the like (meaning they're crime, drama, or slice-of-life) are utterly unrealistic and pointless to him. And the kid's seen a lot of that in real life already, so you cant really argue with him. Also, the margarine they use on popcorn hurts his nose. He likes store-bought ones, really, because you can do anything with them as you please.
✦ It's very rare to hear him speak about his life as "Fuuma"-- he hardly goes back to those times, unless he has to. If he does start talking about them, it's because he was prompted to do so, and even then he'd make it out to be a distant memory, or something he cant remember well. Because as far as "Kamui" is concerned, "Fuuma"'s memories are simply his body's memories, and not his mind's. CLAMP likes stressing the fact that people have two types of memories-- that of the body, and that of the mind, and your body will never forget, even though your mind does.
✦ Ever heard of the trope
If It's You, It's Okay? Now you have. Gender is irrelevant when it comes to attraction on "Kamui"'s part, whether romantic, sexual, admiration, or simply friendship. He likes what he likes-- another CLAMP staple, despite all the "lol gay (Jesus)" jokes you'd hear about him, even from me.
✦ More than his powers, he's more comfortable using his body in fighting. There are only very few instances that he uses his lol psychic powers in an active manner, because he's more of a martial artist than anything. "Kamui" normally employs open-palm fighting, as seen by his death blows, and he hardly kicks, even though he has enormous leg power. There's a drawback to being tall, and that's kicking, because kicks aim for distance. "Kamui", being tall already, might miss if he kicks, and so he uses his arms and hands for better accuracy. If he does kick, well... that means he wants to cause some major property damage, or he's up against a crowd of people.
✦ Vices! He's smoked once before, but didn't want to get into it. He's drank a few times, maybe once or twice with Seishirou (because who else would bother "corrupting" him?), and the others alone. He's never done drugs or gotten high though, because his mind is enough of a trip. All in all, he's experimented here and there just like any teen, but never got into these kinds of habits.
✦ He has a connection to his world. Think the Cetra of FFVII, but not exactly something of that magnitude. How else can he know what its wish is, or how everything will end? He knew everything even before he met Kakyou, and knew what to do, where to go, and everything else-- and he even knew the exact date of it happening, seeing as he was ready during the dream signaling the Final Battle. Which was during the unsealing of the Shinken. He cant do things the way the Cetra can, but he can definitely sense the world on a familiar level.
✦ HE CAN COOK, OKAY. He can do all of those things housewives are supposed to be able to do because "Fuuma"'s mom died when he was around 11. Since his dad was a priest with no skills whatsoever, and his sister was very sickly and busy recovering from the trauma of seeing Saya's chopped-up body, so he took a lot of things upon himself. Kyougo and Kotori tried to help, but in the end he shouldered most of the work around the house.
