A/N: Okay, so my old high school did Grease as the musical this year, and it’s basically all I’ve heard about it. Then, I’m watching the movie with faerie_lullaby and it was during Grease Lightning that this popped into my head. I leave no fandom unslashed. Fear it.

It was all about them. It’s what they were accustomed to, what they had grown to expect. They were the most important because they were the T-Birds.

And of all the T-Birds, they were the top of the top. The coolest of the cool.

They could have anyone.

And they had everyone.

But they preferred each other.

“Zuko.”

Danny looked up with faint traces of a smile. Kenickie slid into the booth opposite Danny as the teen looked back down at the menu in front of him.

“Been a bad day huh?” Kenickie asked.

“What makes you say that?” Danny replied, not looking up again.

“Well, you’re here at the Palace. Alone.”

“And I can see you have all the company.” Danny shot back. Kenickie held his hands up in defense.

“Never said I did. Just callin’ it hows I see it, alright?”

“Yeah, sorry.” Danny sighed, “Sandy chewed me out last night.”

“That all? Riz…she’s…”

“Yeah man, I heard. Sorry.”

“Man, whatever. Like I need that broad all over me all the time. And a kid, what time would that leave me for you, eh?”

Danny smiled at his blonde friend. Kenickie returned the look. Then, with a quick scan around the malt shop, he leaned in closer. Danny took the hint and did the same.

“You, uh, you wanna go to the movies tonight?”

“The drive in?” Danny asked, just to confirm.

“Mmmm,” Kenickie replied softly. Danny sat back and looked back down at his menu. Kenickie leaned back in his own seat, draping his arm lazily across the back. He watched Danny with what appeared to be a lack of interest until he finally, and very subtly, nodded.

Kenickie grinned like a coyote and seemed to relax even more in his seat.

---

It wasn’t unusual to see Danny and Kenickie come to the drive in. When it was the two of them in the car, people figured they had dates showing up the same way.

Sometimes this was the case.

Tonight was not.

Kenickie and Danny ducked their way through the parking lot until they reached the far secluded corner where no one ever went. It was much too far from the screen and even while making out, most liked to keep at least an eye on the movie. It was an insurance thing, because parents always asked how it was.

After parking, Kenickie cut the engine and relaxed in his seat with a soft sigh. Danny cast a glance over at him before following suit.

It was several moments of silence before Kenickie finally spoke up.

“So, Zuks. You gunna try and make it right by her.”

“She’s such a proper girl. I don’t know if my right and her right match.”

“Ah, you’ll be fine. You always pull through.” Kenickie said with a smirk, “It’s those damn blue eyes of yours.”

“Well, they do work on everyone else.”

“’Course they do.” Kenickie grinned, “Sure as hell did on me.”

Danny turned to look at him with a smug smile plastered all over his face.

“Aw shaddup and c’mere,” Kenickie growled, grasping the back of Danny’s neck and pulling him forward. Danny was taken off guard by the kiss he was suddenly pulled into, but soon relaxed into it. Kenickie scooted himself closer, letting his free hand come to a rest on Danny’s thigh. Danny leased a soft sighing noise as he opened his mouth for Kenickie.

It had shocked them both the first time this had happened. In fact it had happened completely by accident. They were hanging out at Danny’s place, relaxing in the basement, waiting for the gang. An argument had broken out, followed by harmless play fighting. A regular occurrence for the best friends.

Kenickie had pushed towards Danny, knocking the boy off balance and both toppled over backwards, Danny pinned beneath his friend.

Kenickie, thinking back, had never been sure if it was the heat of the moment or the way those blue eyes had looked up at him or his suddenly dominate position over the dark haired boy that had lead to him kissing Danny. Maybe it was all of them.

But Danny had kissed back without missing a beat.

Which lead them here.

Finding comfort in each other’s touch when everything else seemed to go to shit for them.

Kenickie leaned back, gently tugging Danny down with him, enjoying the weight of the other on him. It was oddly refreshing to have someone fit so perfectly against his chest, to not have cushions of fat (that he was still irresistibly attracted to) separating them at even the slightest degree.

But he knew as Danny shifted above him that this was not a night for sex. Maybe that night would never come again, and Kenickie felt he was fine with that for the time being. Because he loved Danny almost as much, if not more, than he loved Rizo. He could be contented with kisses and secret cuddles in his car at the drive in or in one of their basements for the rest of his life.

Slowly the kissed lessened and faded and Danny rested his head on Kenickie’s chest.

“Kenick?”

“Hmmm?”

“You…you got me?”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, if it doesn’t work, if something goes…” he choked on the word, “Wrong.”

“Zuko, you’re an idiot. I’ve always got you.”

And as if to prove the point, Kenickie wrapped his arms around Danny, holding him tightly. Danny, as best as he could, returned the embrace to Kenickie.

In the background the movie played on, and they didn’t see a frame of it.

Because at this moment it was the same as it always was and always would be.

It was all about them.

Fin.
