I've taken up lockpicking recently. An older guy I work with set me up with a few "utensils" and a rusty old bike lock. I was never a very patient person, and I have very shakey hands which are covered in small cuts right now because those sharp pointy bits are unforgiving. But I got the fucking thing open. Its an amazing feeling. I can show you a little bit of it if you're interested.
Get yourself a challenging hobby, something that is currently out of your reach because otherwise you won't really get any feeling of accomplishment. You need to get yourself something to be proud of, that you can point at and say, "Yeah, that was me, you tosssers. I did it on my own and I can do it again any time I like no matter how many of you walk out on me, so sod off."
i've been meaning to restring my guitar. would you like to get involved in my road to strumming greatness? i know some things, but there's a lot that i don't. i wouldn't mind having someone help me out with that.
If you find my ex-guitar-repair book, then it has a section on the best way to change strings, and maintain you guitar. Keep the book, even though I know you were never really into that part of things, it has useful info, plus, somethings apply to stuff other than guitar repair. Either way, good luck, and practice! I got into the habit of playing every time I was depressed when I was taking lessons. I wasn't very good, but I got better quickly because I was depressed alot! Speaking of guitar repair, I finally finished working on the arch-top, "Megan". I Mcguiver'd it. :D I was so freaking happy, I almost danced.
