a really huge one has just crawled under my desk and I wish it would go away!

I sympathise! Some possible long-range solutions...

1. Throw water on it?
2. Spray it with air freshener, hairspray or similar til it dies?
3. Drop a large heavy book on it?
4 Set Alice on it........?

Just tell it to go away! - the power of poitive thought should do it all the time. (Although my garden spiders don't take any notice!)

4 Alice has been known to run away from spiders! Perhaps she's brighter than I gave her credit for.
Fortunately there's no sign of it this morning
