I smiled sadly into the phone as if you could see my face. I knew it was a lie. If you loved me you wouldn't have left me alone. Even if I had clung to you in desperation, crying and begging at you feet, you wouldn't have stayed. Your words had long since lost its meaning all those years ago when you moved away. You said that everything would be okay and that it would all work out. But I know the truth.
