[He'd only been here for about a day and a half. Talking to the head instructor, dealing with filling out a class schedule, which meant he had to figure out what half of these classes even meant, and Tim was now ready to go out and explore

--hey- watch it.
[Really, doesn't ANYONE in this place watch where they're walking?]
Reply
Sorry, I'm still...learning...
[Tim's mouth falls slightly open, eyes widening a fraction as he sees who it actually is. His voice is a whisper.]
Kon?

[What was this, the fourth time now?]

[And Tim is rarely surprised. And he rarely, if not ever, does what he does know; throw his arms around the other boy with a grin.]
You're alive!

Conner tenses up exactly as he had with her and then immediately goes to step back or step out of the odd embrace. At the same time his hands push at Tim's shoulders, putting that needed distance between them, frowning.]
...You're surprised that I'm alive? I never died. I have always been alive, for the past five months.
Reply
You're alive, here, but no... Kon, you died. [He frowns, voice softer.]
I watched you die.We had a funeral for you, everyone came. [And then I tried to clone you back to life.]
Reply
So does that mean he should say something like Uh- sorry for your loss...?]
Everyone...?
Reply
Everyone. [Repeats that word again, and he frowns more, looking troubled. This...wasn't Kon. He almost thought for a second that the cloning had worked, but no. It wouldn't work here.
So who was this guy?]
Reply
The guy's frowning all the more and Conner finds it odd that he seems so... upset. Or lost. Confused. ]
The League... Including-- [Very small pause. Conner almost doesn't want to say it out loud. Doesn't want to hope that hey, if he had really died would Superman even show up to his funeral?] --Superman...?
Reply
He wasn't truly back, and Tim cursed inwardly for being so stupid. Of course he hadn't come back. Of course.]
Yeah, including Superman. Everyone came to it. [Softer.] We gave you what you deserved.

[Hearing that he had died, somehow, in this boy's time and world was unsettling and yet... Conner had no recollection of it ever happening and so... it couldn't have been HIM him. But another... form? Was it another one of Cadmus's projects? Another genomorph?
Either way, being told that Superman had shown up at his... other clone's funeral... Conner wasn't sure how to feel about that; relieved, pleased, unsure...?]
...I don't understand. What did I- uh- Kon deserve?
Reply
What didn't he deserve? He was the best friend Tim ever had. And one of the founders of YJ, of TT, Tim couldn't even articulate that kind of thing. Not while he closed himself back up.]
...The best. You-- He deserved the best, for everything he did. For all the help, and the people who were touched by it.

[This world is weird. This entire time thing is weird. Being mistaken for someone else, or a group of people claiming he's someone else but a person they're so close to...]
It doesn't make sense.
Reply
[He swallowed, looking up and giving the polite half smile.]
I'm sorry for bothering you. You do look and sound a lot like him, and it was wishful thinking on my part, for wanting him to be alive again.
Reply
Conner looks down at him, meets his gaze, takes in the polite smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes. Should he at least be supportive? Apologetic?]
Maybe... he will show up.
[Everyone else is showing up in this world... so why can't this guy's passed on friend? Hope is something Superboy will need to learn better.]
Reply
Maybe. But if not, that's okay. I should be learning to let the dead rest in peace.
[He shrugs a little.] I'm really sorry for before. It must have been weird, to suddenly being hugged by someone you don't know.
