Notorious is one of my favorite Hitchcock films, and you've really imbued this with some of that wonderfully angsty despair. I enjoyed it very much, and the betrayal at the end was perfect. Nothing is safe in their world.

Thanks! As soon as I decided to make that nod to Notorious I knew that Nick was a character right out of "Film Noir" and that he would betray them. I hadn't really thought about it before, but the Draco/Hermione ship can fit easily into the genre. Characters who are running from, but can't escape their past. That feeling of inevitable doom.

I forgot to mention that I thought the emotional connection between Draco and Hermione worked very, very well.

Gah! (See, you've made me incoherent.)

Thanks so much for the wonderful feedback. I happen to think "Dead Poet's Society" is a great film, so I'm pleased with the "all-consuming" comparison.

I think the tone you mention is what I wrote about above to bambu345 -- I think when I created the character of Nick, the seedy motel clerk as a framing device, I didn't at first intend to have him do more than observe Draco and Hermione. But the way he watched them, and the decision to use the name from "Notorious" got me into that film noir frame of mind. I think the films that characterize that genre had the same kind of feel, that sense that the character's fates were not in their hands ( ... )

Wow! *fans self* that was beautifully done! So poignant, and the sex was well-written (Hermione doesn't have 4387578642758725 orgasms! Hell, she didn't even have one!).

I like the twist at the end. Makes me wonder just what phone-guy had on Nick. Creepy.

Thanks, hon! Did you see that it got nominated for a DLA? :) I'd like you to do a beta on this for me before you get to any of my other fics. I'll send you a word file from work tomorrow. :)

this could have been just another erotic story, but the way you wrote it, and especially the part about Nick, made it fantastic! its so sad, because just when they are out, this happens. so good.
