I know that there's been a lot of talking on the inter-web about criticism. Now I know that it's not nice to criticize people, goodness knows I hate it when it happens to me. The thing that I think is our problem here is that we are confusing criticism and opinion. I'm not necessarily talking about what's been posted lately, I'm talking bigger

hmm... I would urge caution about assuming so quickly that one would tell you your opinion is wrong just because it did not coincide with his/hers. I dunno, to me that seems like a very odd reason to disagree with anyone, so tell me who it is so I can point and laugh at them! (um, nevermind, it's late). Don't forget that most of us are not so good at expressing ourselves and the fuzzy details around our opinions, and thus a person may have a multitude of very good reasons for disagreeing with you, just not have them at hand--I know you do this too. The important question to ask oneself here is: "if they say it's mean/offensive/etc., they probably mean it, so why would they think that?" then go ahead and ask if it isn't obvious enough.

as for the second paragraph, not sure if that's aimed at me (wtf?) or the other guy (in which case, well put) so I'm not going to comment further.
