cultural differences

I've decided to take a different tack in my approach to this PE photo job and in the process I'm discovering some interesting things about Korean culture. I asked the expat. engineer JinHo Park tonight if he would give Byung Il Kwan, Photo PE manager, a recommendation for me on the the job. As soon as I asked he just started laughing. They need it made VERY clear to them that this is NOT Korea. It's also not a little piece of Korea in America, much as it may seem like it on occasion. Being able to do whatever you want and follow a new path when you think it's the right one is what America has always been about.

Laughing was not called for, that's for sure.

Remember, Asian people tend to be pushy, too. Maybe it's not time to sit back yet...?

Yes, I do agree with and understand what you are saying, however I found out the hard way what happens when you push too far. The previous manager of photo was another Korean, Jae Nam Lim, and I approached him one too many times to the point where he basically told me, "Yes, you have already talked to me. . go away." So. . I'm a little hesitant to be too pushy. I've heard, though, that Byung Il is a little more receptive. On another note. . Jae Nam is now back in Korea. . hmm. .
