People of Color: Stargate Universe

Before you click past the cut-tag, I'm putting these up in the easiest way for me. Tables make my brain explode and if I wait for pictures I may never get it up. And the whole point of it was for it to be a fun little project, not to feel like something I have to get presented just perfectly or never put up. I may repost to update it, or prettify ( Read more... )

I think my favorite bit of casting here is Kal Pen as Jonas. N'awwww... Also, I don't know who the actor is that you have playing Lorne, but he *looks* absolutely perfect. :D

Re: Lorne - Malik Yoba was in NY Undercover. And I believe he can now be seen in Raines. I've seen him do a lot of things inbetween playing a cop though. So playing a military man would be easy for him as would adding a sense of humor and the right amount of respect for whomever is above him in the chain of command.

Thanks :)

And yay that you appreciate Kal Pen :)

Over via a link from Rydra. To respond on the shallowest possible level, the thought of J. August Richards as Cameron Mitchell and Daniel Dae Kim as Sheppard makes me *so very happy.* Because Richards could *totally* nail that mix of determination and enthusiasm that Mitchell has, plus the slightly cocky flyboy attitude. And Daniel Dae Kim...just...yes!

(Also, Taye Diggs would make an awesome, snarky Ba'al. And Gina Torres as Osiris!)

Right now the shallowest possible level is as good as anything deeper; cause it's all love. Love for the characters, love for the possibilities and love for me (yay!) cause of the thought I put into who would be whom.

So thanks and shallow-away :)

Also where exactly is Rydra linking me from? I said she could pimp as she liked, but I grow more curious as to where the discussion is happening.

*wanders by again, trying not to look like a stalker*

I've just posted to my LJ about it, but I think minnow1212 arrived via a mention in the comments to her review of "Line In The Sand", where there had been discussion of Aisha Hinds (who played Thilana) and why she should be in charge of the SGC instead of Landry.

I also mentioned it to a couple of people (like liviapenn) who'd been discussing race and Stargate casting choices in my LJ a while back, with some brief speculation on dream-casting of Weir as a woman of colour.

*laughs* It's LJ. On a topic you like to boot. Stalking would be, I don't know, showing up in something I hadn't published publicaly, under a different name that I'd friended and going 'I see you'. Or something.

Right now? Not creepy.

I hadn't seen anything on your journal, which is why I originally asked. But I do see it now. And I had wondered about the conversations you were having.

OMG Andre Braugher as Harry Maybourne! ::head explodes:: He would be astonishing.

This is very cool casting. I like most of the original casts, but yeah, this is very cool. Gina Torres! DDK! Don Cheadle! Jesse L. Martin! (Although really, with Jesse L. Martin in the role, Sam could never have turned down Martouf...)

Oh, and Rydra linked you on her LJ.

The ways of Sam's head are deep, mysterious and full of physics symbols :) And I've never been quite sure she did turn down Martouf, just that she wanted more time initially to feel things for herself, and not from Jolinar.

I've always read him as one of her boyfriends and his death just sealed the deal for me.

I, too, am here via Rydra. ;)

These are fantastic!!! To think of all the characters I would have liked so much better with this casting (Jesse L. Martin as Martouf!!! Kal Pen as Jonas!!! *flails*) Except I'm not quite sure whether to jump for joy at the possibilities or mourn the fact that said possibilities will never be realized.

I'm thinking of creating a fanfic community based on the re-casting. So, jump for joy?

There's enough sadness going around. And I have to remind myself that at least in my head things could be different. Maybe the more we promote the possibility, the sooner it'll become actualized.

Uhm, ok, that sounded absolutely pretentious. Maybe the more we squee about the possibility, and promote it, the more it'll sink into the heads of certain people that casting calls don't have to be immediately white unless they're going for 'exotic other'.

Well in that case, jump for joy it is!

And no, that doesn't sound pretentious in the least: it's an excellent point, and it's always a good thing to emphasize the squee, especially when it can be so easy to get down about all of this.

Those are amazing!!! And you really stay in character with the generic roles the characters are filling.

This is smart and cool and eye-opening!!!

Thank you.

It's good to know people can see I put thought into this.
