Oh, wow, that was fantastic! I cried at the end. Unusual premise and fascinating results.

Thank you so much for this lovely comment! This is my first piece of fanfic, so getting comments at all was a thrill, but hearing that I managed to move you to tears made me squee and giddily dance around the room. *g*

That was your first fanfic?! You are one talented writer. May I friend you?

It was. I have no idea where it came from! *g* You may certainly friend me, although I'm afraid I write much more real life and not much with the fiction.

I really, really liked this. You did a beautiful job of fleshing out Gabrielle's character, and her voice is so charming. I love the slow pace of the story, and all the attention to detail in the language. I feel like I can see the farm and the goats and the orchard. Lovely, lovely story.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave me such a lovely comment! Gabrielle sort of took over my brain and I couldn't do anything else until this story was finished. Hee. But I'm glad you liked it, and especially that the setting was clear, because that was a struggle. (After finishing: oh lord, do they even have apple orchards in France? *frantically googles*)

I think you did tell me in email, but it's lovely to hear it again. Hee. This story took over my brain somehow and wouldn't let me eat/sleep/work until it was finished. So I can't actually take much credit. But thank you for your wonderful comments, it means a lot to a beginning writer!

This is beautiful. Such painstaking attention to detail--I can taste the apples and cheese, feel the wool. I love your Gabrielle and how well she's fleshed out and how she doesn't feel like Fleur Jr.; she's her own character. I'm also impressed with the way you managed to work in the tragedies of the war and have them seem sad but not overpowering; it's hope that prevails.

Thank you so much for this lovely comment! I had great fun writing it, and it's wonderful that people enjoyed it. I sort of thought that having an older sister with as strong a personality as Fleur's might make Gabrielle define herself in the opposite way. And I'm so happy that that worked for you.
