Fifth shot

[Elsa wakes up rather disoriented. It's warmer than she remembers, definitely warmer than the end of March ought to be. And the fact that she's in one piece, safe and sound, is still strange to get used to after dying. While endless extra lives are a nice thing to have in the absence of her immortality, it has proven to take quite a bit of ( Read more... )

[Look who's come stumbling into the room, looking half-asleep. He pauses when he sees her, grabs his own cup of tea and plonks down across from her]

Welcome back then.

[Ellie watches him enter the room and get his own tea. Nice to see he hasn't changed over this month and a half, as far as she can tell.]

Thank you.

I'm glad to see I haven't been left entirely by myself here. How long ago was Elizabeth droned?

[He fiddles with his tea and fidgets when he finally replies, which in his own strange body language indicates his discomfort with the subject]

Recently.

I see.

[Elsa's not always the most sensitive person, but she can see that he's bothered by the subject. And, honestly, she's just as unhappy with the knowledge. She liked Elizabeth; the drone is no improvement.

She tries her hand at trying to make him feel better, although the deadpan delivery as she sips her tea probably doesn't actually assuage anything at all.]

She might be back. I was gone for over a month.

Considering what this place does, it wouldn't be a bad idea to carry it with you all the time. That's why I have this with me.

[The fact that the girl seems to be a teenager doesn't really faze Elsa. She's been dealing with monsters since she was an infant, after all.]

... I would probably get harassed by drones if I carried it around with me...

...

... I guess I could get something smaller...

Just ignore them. The drones don't have minds of their own, so why should you care how they judge you?

Although a smaller firearm wouldn't be bad for you to have. They fire more quickly.

Mostly just random stupidity. People are prone to that here.

Yes, they are. Especially the people I know.

How did the fight end? I fell before the robot was taken down.

[Well, she was smooshed. But saying "fell" sounds a lot more dignified.]

Victory, of course. Were you expecting anything else?

Of course I wasn't. I just wanted to hear it.

I have to wonder where all the damage went, though. How did they manage to clean everything up in such a short period of time?

...What exactly are you looking to shoot?

[Dist hasn't been paying attention to the dates, or he'd be more cautious around females in general today. Though, to be fair, his tone is inquisitive and rather benign.]

Bears, if I see any.

[She's dead serious.]

...This far in town? You need to go out to the highway if you want to shoot bears.

I figured it's better to be safe than sorry, just in case one of them wanders into town.

I like to see that kind of enthusiasm.

How much do you know about shotguns, Ms. ...?

Akashi! And I'm really better with pistols. My friend Mana's pretty good with shotguns and sniper rifles, though. But I'm definitely willing to learn!

[NEW FAVORITE STUDENT.]

If you're willing to learn, then I am more than happy to teach you. It's better that you know about all types of firearms; you don't always get your preference.

[She'll also be teaching them how to improvise weapons out of just about anything, but that's a lesson for another day.]
