PERSONALITY: Yoshimi has this little habit he likes to call "wearing a mask". He sees it as necessary to show everyone his friendly, smiling face instead of what he really feels though he is somewhat of a space case. After all, making friends gets kind of difficult if you're always sad or angry. It isn't that the spastic happy demeanor he seems to always have is fake. For Yoshimi, it's too much trouble to fabricate emotions from scratch, so he simply buries his feelings when around others. However, the crushing weight of the life he's forced to live under the roof of a house that was once a happy home until his uncle took over has left him severely depressed, though he's been able to hold onto his sanity for the most part. Though he hasn't gone nuts, he does suffer from insomnia which can leave him rather grouchy if he can't find enough time for a good nights sleep or just sleepy in general. In battle and when he's alone are the only times when he ditches his happy demeanor. While he tends to be quiet and sad when alone, in battle his anger shows in full. In battle is really the only time when Yoshimi seems particularly masculine. Not taking into account when he spots what he deems to be a girl worthy of "carrying on the Negiwa name". Seeing it as his duty as heir, Yoshimi has developed into a total flirt in hopes of marrying as soon as possible and appears as a playboy, though that mask of his is completely fabricated. Overall, no matter what the situation, Yoshimi spends a lot of his time worrying over small things that really don't matter as much as he thinks they do.
BACKGROUND: In his early childhood, Yoshimi could have easily been described as a shut-in. He was home tutored and spent much of his time learning the ways of the family, so that he could eventually fulfill his duty as the heir to the Negiwa family. Early on, he took a keen interest in his family's samurai roots and begged his father to let him take up sword play- a proposal which was readily accepted. And so, from early on Yoshimi proved himself to be a good student in not only his academic studies but in kendo and business matters as well. The highlights of his days were, however, when his younger twin sisters Kokurisou and Kakurisou decided to grace him with their presence. In his limited world, the best things were his three younger siblings, all of which he deemed as precious treasures to be squealed over and buried in so many hugs they fell over, and his parents who took care of all of them. However, in a cruel twist of fate he lost all five of the people who made his life worth living.
At the age of eleven, both of his parents left home on a usual outing never to return. They were found soon after being reported missing, but it was already too late- they were both dead. In a frantic hurry to protect the children from the fate their parents had suffered, all four were sent to live with separate relatives regardless of how loudly Yoshimi protested. And so it happened that Yoshimi wound up in the care of his Uncle, his Uncle's wife and their young son, separated from the only people he'd ever held close. Needless to say, he was generally an emotional wreck when he arrived and refused to come out of his room for an entire week. After a week, however, Yoshimi decided to venture from the room he'd been given at his uncle's house in hopes of apologizing for his ignorance. After all, the father he'd just lost was his Uncle's brother, so wouldn't he being feeling pain as well? However, he was only met with a callous reaction from the entire small family he would be stuck living with for the next three years. As time went on, he found that his uncle intended to keep him isolated from the world through online schooling and also had no intention for anyone but his own son to inherit the family. Yoshimi, without a viable heir, had been put on the sidelines of inheritance and saw what was rightfully his slowing slipping away. Yet again, his protests were squelched when he attempted to do something about it. After having to explain to his Uncle why he needed to call his great grandmother- the generally accepted head of the family- he realized that his Uncle wouldn't just hand over the inheritance once Yoshimi had an heir. As his distrust in his Uncle turned to suspicions of him being the one who'd murdered his parents, his life began getting worse.
As Yoshimi got older, his uncle seemed to think that the boy would get more uppity in his attempts to regain what belonged to him. Instead of taking the peaceful means to secure the family fortune for his own son, his uncle decided to take a different route- either beat the boy to death or push him to suicide, the later of which was preferable. And so began the torture. Every time that Yoshimi got in arms reach of his Aunt of Uncle, he'd receive a smack of one degree or another. What started as simple smack upside the head quickly grew to straight up abuse. Most of his belongings were given to his cousin if the other boy saw them as desirable until he was left with almost nothing but his practice sword and the clothes he'd brought with him. As his own growth stuttered to a stop and that of his cousin increased, the younger boy began to torment him as well. Fighting back would have only resulted in worse treatment, and so Yoshimi simply decided to endure, though the stress was too much for him. After collapsing from a week straight of no sleep, his Uncle got the doctor to prescribe the boy heavy sleeping medication that would ensure he got eight hours of sleep every night. Though the dosage was only one pill, his Aunt kept and still keeps trying to slip him an extra pill every night in hopes he'll eventually overdose.
Thankfully, after an undesirably long time, Yoshimi was reunited with his siblings. What returned, however, was not the confident, strong brother they'd been torn from but a thin shadow of what once was. For the few days what was left of his family was reunited, he completely ignored everything that was going on around him except for the three little lights of his life. Yet, even though their great grandmother was finally doing something about their Uncle's madness, things couldn't last forever. Less than a week after they were reunited, there was what seemed to be a break in at the main house they'd all been summoned back to. A few of the family heirlooms- weapons in specific- had gone missing along with two other treasures more precious to him than life- his younger twin sisters. Within that same week, his great grandmother was hospitalized from a heart attack and his final sibling sent back off to their other uncle. While this uncle stuck around in town to help take care of the hospitalized elderly woman, Yoshimi saw little of his remaining sibling. There were however, a few perks to this new lifestyle.
Smelling something rotten, his great grandmother demanded he be put in public schooling so that his uncle would have the public eye to consider when choosing his actions if not her own warnings to heed. This makes Yoshimi a recent transfer student into public schooling, though he immediately joined two clubs in hopes of staying out of the house as much as possible. Also, after the break in, Yoshimi was able to smuggle away a pair of swords from the family valuables- a katana and it's matching wakazashi. Though he considers it extremely low to commit crimes against his own family, he believes those weapons to be his rightful inheritance as a member of the main family. Every night, taking these two swords in hand, Yoshimi sneaks out on a mission to find his two missing sisters. Between school and searching, he gets just about no sleep, but he does his best not to be a grouch and get in sleep at some point in the day.
ORIENTATION: This is a bit of a muddled point for Yoshimi. While he's accepted the fact that there isn't any other option than for him to fall in love with and eventually marry a woman, he's not so sure he likes girls very much in a romantic way. After being introduced to society after fifteen years of seclusion, he found himself much more attracted to the other boys than to the girls, however. Still, except for the occasional blush when talking to cute boys, Yoshimi keeps this part of him strictly under wraps.
SAMPLE POST: My first day in public schooling. This is going to be an adventure. I can't remember a time when school didn't mean sitting in a stuffy room with my siblings, but I don't think I'll mind a change of pace. School and clubs means that I won't have to be home as often. For a place that made up most of my happy childhood, it's kind of stifling...
But on a happier note, I can go visit grandma in the hospital on the way home from school. If I get on the train on stop later, it's right on the way. Though I'm not sure my short legs can handle all that walking... orz But I'll manage somehow. I always do. ^^~ I guess that's a wrap for diary-type entries. I was never much good at those kinds of things anyway...
ROLEPLAYING SAMPLE: The clock by his bed slowly ticked away the minutes into hours as Yoshimi lay staring at the ceiling. 11:13... 11:14... 11:17.... On and off he dozed, sleeping for hardly even a few minutes before some soft sound woke him again. Was that creaking the sound of his cousin coming to harass him again? Or was that sound of leaves not the wind in the trees but his uncle, out there creeping around? As the suspicions grew, he could feel the stress typing knots in his stomach. He should have taken his sleeping medication hours ago so he could wake up from his dreamless, medicated slumber in time for school but tonight was not a night for that. Underneath the covers, he lay fully clothed in simple garments that were perfect for prowling the night- dark clothes that were thick enough to keep a sudden breeze from chilling his frail form to the bone. Soon enough, the clock flipped to 11:30, after what seemed like hours of painful waiting. Slowly, he sat up and rolled the blankets away from him. Though he knew that his "family" would be long asleep at this hour, he couldn't help feeling nervous. Softly, he set his feet on the ground and reached beneath his mattress. There lay two dark, hard objects, one about half the length of the other. Gentle removing them from their hiding place, he laid his weapons on the bed beside him. Still careful not to make a noise, he secured the wakazashi on his waist behind him and clipped on his katana so that it would dangle at his side like one would expect a sword to. There, it provided him at least a little bit of confidence as he slowly stood, making his way from his bedroom towards the nearest exit of the establish, being careful not to make a single sound. He didn't even want to think of what might happen to him if he woke any one person in the household up.
This was a painstaking daily ritual for the boy, sometime performed earlier in the evening, sometimes during the day if he didn't have school. Armed with his swords, sometimes concealed and other times out in the open, he would canvas the town in hopes of finding his sisters or at least some kind of lead that would take him to where they were. It was a hopeless effort, really, but he felt it was all that he could do. It didn't feel right to just sit at home hearing day after day how the police couldn't find them and didn't have any idea where they were. It seemed they'd just vanished from the face of the earth, never to be seen again. Had they beat him to the after life, or were they still in the city just waiting for him to come find them? Weapons where he could get to them with ease, Yoshimi set out upon the town for another night of fruitless searching for his two precious treasures who seemed to not want to be found.
