Outside Savage Garden | Sunday Morning

Kate always had been an early riser. One of those traits hammered into her early by Voron, insisting that sleeping in made you lazy and would one day get her killed. She'd always been skeptical (what could a couple extra hours under her blankets really do?) but the training had stuck all the same ( Read more... )

There was a person on the steps to his cabin. Nico always had that internal bit of dialogue where he wondered if he should simply nod and pass by or attempt to engage the person in some sort of sad attempt at conversation.

Today, the part of him that asked What would Luke do? decided to drop his armor on the porch and take a seat on an empty part of the steps to clean his sword. "Hope you don't mind," he said as an afterthought, realizing the dark, stygian blade might not seem all that normal.

Luke would probably say something cooler, too. Oh well.

Considering Kate fed her large magical sword on a regular basis... Not so bothered by someone else choosing to polish theirs in her presence.

"It's a free... porch." Besides, he was already sitting now, and it gave her a chance to indulge her curiosity and watch. "As long as you're not planning to skewer me unarmed--" Kate shrugged.

Okay, so she wasn't completely unarmed, but he didn't need to know that.

Nico snorted at the idea, but he made sure he turned so she wasn't in any danger if his arms lost control of what he was doing. "I'll do my best to keep the pointy end under control. I haven't stabbed any humans on accident so the odds are in your favor already."

"So if I annoy you enough, I'm fair game?" she wondered with a smirk. Whole different situation if he was trying to poke her with holes on purpose, right?

Being an early riser had been something firmly planted into Alexander for a while, as well; Manannan was the type who liked to wake up to a great deal of the day's tasks already being done so he could think of new, more trying tasks, and Valanice was the sort of woman who thought all the day's work was best done before noon.

He was thinking of taking to the library to do a little research, or perhaps a bit of exploring and getting to know the natives off the island, but in passing one of the cabins and seeing someone else up and about (relatively speaking, anyway), he figured he could stand to be a little social. So he nodded in greeting and offered a smile. "Good morning."

Kate lifted her hand in a sort of wave as she chewed her toast.

"So there is life in this place before midday," she noted, in place of a greeting. You had to wonder sometimes.

Alexander had to a grin a little at the comment. "You find this surprising?" he wondered. "Perhaps then, we are just too quiet on a morning like this to really notice. My name is Alexander, by the way. I am not certain if we've had the honor of meeting yet."

"I don't think so." Unless it was a case of a class introduction she'd failed to pay attention to. "Kate, and no, I guess not so surprising now I've been here a few weeks."

Sam had woken up early with the hope of heading towards the mainland in hopes of finding some good places to skateboard. The boardwalk on the island was a pretty decent place but since it wasn't raining and he didn't think he'd end up with an eyepatch in Colorado, exploration couldn't hurt.

Skateboard tucked under his arm, he happened to see Kate as he headed out and decided to stop. "Morning, Savannah."

Yeah, Sam knew that wasn't her name but he thought it was a pretty creative way to address her. "You're up early."

"What? We're just not so damned lazy down South," Kate said with a nonchalant shrug.

Forget that she didn't appear so active right now.

"Hey, I said you were up early, not the entire population of the south," Sam pointed out, stopping and slipping his skateboard up behind his head with his arms.

"I never been down south," he remarked with a shrug. "All I know about that area is that it's hot and you guys are supposed to have twangy accents."

"Not always true, either of them." Kate herself was proof of the accent half. There were hints, but with all the travel she'd done growing up it was comparatively mild.

"There's a street in Atlanta where it snowed one winter, and the stuff didn't melt for four years." Though that was more a product of magic than it was the weather. Hundred degree summer heat didn't even touch it.
