Kate wasn't easily scared, or even easily perturbed, and yet every time she ducked her head to do anything, there was an echoing giggle, from the darkest corner -- from within her wards, and it sent an uncomfortable tingle down the back of her neck.

All day, Toby had had the sense that he was being followed. Except none of the thoughts he could pick up from those around him indicated that was actually the case.

So he'd taken to wandering the halls in an attempt to banish what he was dismissing as unfounded paranoia.

"...Big plans?" he asked curiously, peering in Kate's open doorway.

"I wouldn't call it plans..." It wasn't that she was hoping to do anything with the throwing knife she was fiddling with, but it was a good metaphorical safety blanket. "I like to think of it as being prepared for all eventualities."

Like the one that ended with her dismembering a certain freaky doll.
