I had this nightmare. It woke me at 3 am, I think because I had lost and being killed has a tendency to shock one back into reality. That had been the second occurence of the same dream, or at least the same beginning. I would see your response in the dream as a success because you siezed control of your mind and made your dream bend to your will. Even in your mind you would not let anything happen to your son. Even the very thought of it was so offensive to you that you destroyed the dream that presented it as possible. It was violently noble in the defense of the one you are charge to protect at all costs.

Even if there were some subconcious desire to defeat this character in your dream in some form of combat, that you shed that desire to protect your son shows the character required of a father, the one who leads by self sacrificial service.
