"The damage was not unreversable. We should be able to replace all that was lost when we stop for supplies at the next Starbase." Perhaps a neutral topic would be best until he understood what was happening.

It was ridiculous, for him to become so concerned over one of the crew, even one who had spent the day teetering dangerously on the edge of being a friend. Whatever was bothering the man was of no concern of Spock's. Yet his mind had continually kept returning to the subject of him as he was cleaning.
It must just be that he perceived him as a problem to be solved. That must be it.
