Spock nodded to him, wondering if he should say something comforting about leaving his daughter, but figured he had nothing comforting to give. Instead he just nodded to him, closed off and not daring to even brush his hands while surrounded by fellow Vulcans. He started to follow the directions he was given, to his father's new residence.

It felt very odd to be going 'home' and know that his mother would not be there to greet him.

The pair were given a wide berth by the Vulcans in the street; they were at least polite enough not to stare and whisper, but there were certainly glances here and there. Spock stopped in front of the gate to announce his presence; it was a bare house on dusty land, if expertly built as was fitting for Sarek's high status. If his mother had been here, there would have at least been the starts of a garden.

He forced the thought from his mind, standing straight as the gate allowed them in and they were greeted by one of his father's aides, who directed them to the office.
