History: Once, there was a boy named Sora, who lived in a small world called Destiny Islands. He, along with his best friends Riku and Kairi, had dreams of leaving their tiny home and travelling to see all of the worlds they could. Unfortunately, something terrible happened one night, and both Riku and Kairi went missing, leaving Sora to go on an adventure to find them, aided by the mystery weapon, the Keyblade, and his newly found friends, Donald Duck and Goofy, both working for the great King Mickey.
Finally, Sora found both of his friends -- but Riku had given in to the power of Darkness, and Kairi had lost her heart, leaving her comatose. He defeated the dark side of Riku, who was trying to defeat Sora to reclaim Kairi's heart, and Sora realised that Kairi's heart had been left within himself; so, in an act of foolish nobility, he impaled himself with Riku's weapon, just as Riku had been attempting to do. Kairi's heart was returned to her, but Sora's also vanished, leaving him as the product of a body without a heart -- a creature known as a Heartless.
Sora, even as a Heartless, was strangely aware of what was happening, despite that a Heartless is usually a mindless, heart-gathering monster. He followed his friends, and Kairi, with some kind of intuition, bent down and asked the tiny Heartless if it was Sora. She picked it up, ignoring the warnings of everyone else, and hugged it; in her arms, then, was Sora, transformed back to his usual self thanks to Kairi's show of heart.
However, at the point when Sora was turned to a Heartless, something else was created. When a person with a particularly strong heart becomes a Heartless, a second creature is made -- a Nobody. Unlike Heartless, which blindly steal the hearts of others, Nobodies cannot take hearts, although it is their foremost desire to have one; to exist, as a whole being. The stronger the heart of the Somebody, the higher-rank the Nobody created -- and Sora had one of the strongest hearts around. His Nobody was one of the rare few strong enough to create itself a human form, a strong mind and a personality; and that Nobody was given the name Roxas.
Shortly after being separated from Sora, Roxas was discovered in Twilight Town by Xemnas, the Nobody in charge of a group of Nobodies like Roxas; Organization XIII. He offered Roxas a place in the Organization, and Roxas accepted, not knowing how valuable he really was; unlike most other Nobodies, Roxas had no memories of his previous life as Sora. As the Nobody of the Keyblade Bearer, Roxas was also able to wield the powerful weapon. And each time he slay a Heartless with his Keyblade, a heart was released, furthering the goal of Organization XIII; to control the power of Kingdom Hearts, and regain their hearts. Many of them wanted nothing more than to be whole, complete; to exist.
And so, Roxas was given the number XIII, and the title The Key of Destiny. He carried out the missions assigned to him by Xemnas, and he formed an extremely strong friendship with the member chosen to "show him the ropes" -- VIII, Axel. He also became friends, later on, with a girl named Xion, who was a clone of Sora created by Xemnas, should Sora be of no more use to them. She wielded a Keyblade of her own, and as such, Roxas was assigned to watch over her whilst Axel was in Castle Oblivion. Eventually, though, Xion wanted to rejoin with Sora, and Xemnas had her reprogrammed to destroy and absorb Roxas. Instead, Roxas won the battle and absorbed her, obtaining her Keyblade in the process.
It was then that Roxas made his decision to leave Organization XIII. The destruction of his friend, the mystery of Sora, and the reveal of Xemnas' true nature was too much for him to bear, and he left despite Axel's pleas in order to find Sora and discover answers to the questions he now harboured.
It wasn't quite so simple. Riku was asked by Ansem the Wise to defeat and kidnap Roxas, and he was placed inside of a digital Twilight Town, with no memories of his life as an Organization member or a Nobody. He lived a perfectly normal life in the simulation world, while the Nobody and "witch", Naminé, pieced together Sora's broken memories, and thus disturbed Roxas' memories, too -- until Axel broke into the system in a desperate attempt to bring Roxas back to the Organization before he could be killed. Roxas spent the rest of his time in the digital Twilight Town in a confused, angry state; everyone seemed to know more about his life than he himself did, and in the end, Riku led him to the Mansion, where he battled Axel, regained his memories and finally, defeated, he rejoined with Sora, allowing the boy to awaken from his year-long slumber.
Roxas remained at least semi-conscious during Sora's adventures, which was shown when, as Sora left Twilight Town and Roxas' old friends behind, he began to cry; in actuality, it was Roxas crying, because Sora couldn't recall feeling sad at the time. Roxas did not emerge again until two incidents nearing the end of the game; he appeared in a vision to Sora upon the boy's arrival in The World That Never Was, and battled him in a fit of anger and frustration. When Sora defeated him, Roxas finally calmed and smiled, telling Sora as he left, "You make a good other." He appeared once more with Naminé just before the final battle with Xemnas, as both of them rejoined with their Somebodies for the final time (Kairi and Sora, respectively). In the ending scene of the game, both Naminé and Roxas were shown smiling through Kairi and Sora.
Personality: The Roxas that is first seen in the digital Twilight Town is something more of a normal boy; he's a little sarcastic, he's friendly, sensible -- for the most part -- and he stands up for himself and his friends. He's a pretty strong kid, with simple likes; Struggle and skateboarding. He can have a bit of a mischievous streak, just like any other teenage boy, but for the most part he's down-to-earth. Until strange things start happening, Roxas isn't shown getting angry at anyone; he's kind to his friends, to the shopkeepers, and he even tolerates the local bastard Seifer.
However, Roxas doesn't do well when his head starts getting messed with. When he becomes confused, he gets frustrated, and that leads to downright violent rage. He attacks the lesser Nobodies that follow him, and Axel, merely out of a confused anger. He begins to yell at even the quiet, kind Naminé, simply because he's out of the loop; after he regains part of his memories, he smashes the computer in the Mansion to pieces with his Keyblade in some kind of blind rage. Simply put, Roxas does have issues with anger at times, even if he is a nice enough kid most of the time.
The Roxas of Organization XIII is also, at times, very dark and serious, just like any of the highest thirteen members; he's touchy about the subject of his heart, of his existence, and of Sora. He doesn't like Sora very much for a large part of the game -- when Riku first approaches him and mentions Sora's name, Roxas becomes enraged and attacks him. Whenever the mysterious "DiZ" -- Ansem the Wise -- speaks to him of Sora, he also starts to get violent, especially regarding their shared existence. When DiZ suggests that he share some of his hatred with Sora, Roxas snaps, "No! My heart belongs to me!", and he becomes extremely offended whenever Naminé tells him that a Nobody does not have a heart, nor its own existence. This suggests that Roxas highly dislikes not being in control of himself, or anything to do with his life and destiny, and that he is a rather independent character.
The real Roxas is a blend of all of this, although most likely the only time he was ever his normal self was during the brief period of peace he had in Organization XIII as Axel's best friend, and later for a short amount of time with Xion.
HOWEVER, something important that must be remembered in the case of Nobodies is that they do not have hearts, and nor do they have feelings. Instead, what they have is memories of how those emotions felt, with which they piece together their own kind of hollow sensations. For example, while he may feel the pain and discomfort of heart-breaking sorrow, those emotions are not real; they're only something that his mind creates to simulate those feelings.
Abilities: Roxas is able to wield two Keyblades due to his connection with Sora and absorption of Xion; the two are named Oblivion and Oathkeeper, and he is able to summon or vanish them with ease. He is extremely skilled with combat when it comes to them, and although they are definitely close-combat weapons, he can throw them from a distance and still hit right on the mark. He also controls the element of light, which he can utilise for some attacks.
Like the rest of his fellow Nobodies, Roxas can use portals of darkness to travel between worlds, with the Realm of Darkness acting as a bridge between the two places, and he can command Nobodies of lesser rank, as well as summon them at his will.
Possessions: Nothing but his clothes (including his Organization XIII coat) and his Keyblades.

When Roxas had first remembered, he had been angry. He knew that much; after being filled with so many of Sora's memories, he had glanced at that picture of Naminé's, of him and Axel standing side-by-side, and finally, he had gotten a glimpse of his own memories and he had been furious. He hadn't understood what was going on, why he couldn't remember and it was all so frustrating that he had nearly swung around and smashed the vase of flowers on Naminé's table.
The second time, he had seen red. He'd smashed the computer terminal blindly, in such a rage that by the end of it, he had nearly just dropped to his knees and screamed, but there was a determination pushing him to continue, to find more, to find Sora. That didn't stop the bitterness from setting in when he had finally come to realise what he apparently was; a Nobody, a heartless thing with no emotions, no right to exist, wasn't that what DiZ had said?
(But he could remember now, he saw flashes; a blonde and a redhead sitting in some strange room, something that almost looked like a futuristic graveyard, and he knew the name of that room.
Proof of Existence.
"Do we really exist, Axel?" the blonde had asked, and the redhead had ruffled his hair and laughed, softly.
"Isn't that what this room is for, Roxas?")
And then he'd sliced through those things that dared to call him their "liege", the things that twirled and danced with him in such a familiar way, before Axel was suddenly there -- and then they were at each other's throats, because Axel had lost everything important to him, and Roxas couldn't remember what had been important in the first place, and he was frustrated. He had won, in the end, he had beaten Axel down, and finally, he could remember everything.
Axel had looked up at him with a weak grin, and the third time Roxas remembered, he had been heart-broken. (He wanted to laugh at the sheer irony of that expression, and he could feel his stomach twisting uncomfortably; how on Earth could you break something that didn't exist?)
So he and Axel had made a stupid promise that neither of them really believed in (but he had wanted to, he really had), and they had both resigned themselves to their fates.
"I'll be waiting."
After all, what else did he have to do, other than to wallow and seethe and hate Sora? And he really did hate the kid, because Sora had everything he could never even experience, he had his heart, and Roxas would have to be a fool not to be jealous of that. Sora had the life he couldn't even bring himself to dream of having.
He'd screamed and yelled and lunged at DiZ, he'd slashed uselessly at the stupid hologram of the man who had ruined his perfect delusion of a life, the obliviousness he'd been so happy to keep, but when he looked up at the slumbering boy before him, he'd suddenly realised it -- he was just so tired. He had stared at the peaceful Sora, felt the empty ache that was surely supposed to be longing (and fuck what DiZ said, because that felt more than real enough to him), and he had given in.
He'd had enough. He really was just... tired. Tired of everything. Tired of nothing.
"You're lucky, Sora."
He supposed it was fitting that his Nobody be unlucky XIII, then.
⎛CONCEPT⎠
Proposed Concept: Heartless.
Description of Concept: When a person is consumed by negative emotions, they lose their heart, and become what is known as a "Heartless". These Heartless are mindless creatures that think nothing beyond gathering countless hearts from others; they swarm from world to world, varying in sizes, strengths and abilities -- which depends on the strength of the original person's heart -- and they obey the strongest power around, be it a Nobody or a witch. They attack anything that crosses their path, especially those with hearts of their own, and those with strong hearts; however, as proven by the fact that they are known to attack Organization XIII members when uncontrolled, they are not limited to heart-searching -- it is simply the task that they carry out blindly.
The most common form of Heartless, as well as the weakest, is the
Shadow, which gather in every world in absolute abundance. They can be killed by any means, although only the Keyblade is able to release the gathered hearts. Shadows possess no particular strengths or unique abilities, apart from their sharp claws and method of flattening themselves against the ground temporarily to sneak around, momentarily untouchable.
