3 - For each of the fandoms from day two, what were your favorite characters to write?
I'm going to limit this to fandoms I've actually written more than one piece for.
Bandom: My bandom phase was like a decade ago (laws, that makes me feel old), so I don't really remember. I do remember that all three of us who comprised the GlassJAw fandom had decided at some point that "canon" Daryl was a douchebag, which is always fun. I like writing likable douchebags.
Ace Attorney: Miles Edgeworth. He's one of my favorite fictional characters, period. I think the thing about him that sometimes fandom misses is that yes he's a little bit broken, yes he has no idea what to do with his emotions, yes he can be avoidant and single-minded and cold. But he's so damn strong. He comes out of everything a better man. He comes out a better man but still maintains his complexity. He's just a really good character, and as such he's a pleasure to write.
Plus, I think I've got his voice nailed pretty well at this point, and you know, we all like things we're good at. ;)
Dragon Age: I haven't written toooo much for this fandom, so it's a little tough to say. But I did really enjoy writing my Warden. With the voiceover work, Hawke feels more like a fully fleshed out character, which was fantastic. But she felt less like my character. And that's not a complaint; I think the VO breathes extra life into the story and the character, and I do prefer it. But in DA, my Warden said exactly what I told her to say, and her tone of voice and emphasis and verbal ticks were all mine to imagine. And I liked finally bringing her to life in a story. But now that I've done so, I don't know that I'd ever feel compelled to write her again, whereas I'm sure I can get a lot of mileage out of Hawke.
