Oh man, sorry about your laptop DD: I don't have a Chrombook or know anyone with one, so I can't really help you there though ): I might keep an eye on this post still though, haha, my laptop's nearing the end of its life too

so i ended up not getting the chromebook after all. i found an acer laptop (same company which made the old laptop which i loved, my desktop, and bf's desktop) that is only a little bit bigger than my old machine (11.6" instead of 10.5"). it's a little slower than i'd like, but it will serve my needs nicely (i think).

this one was $400, but i had to pay (a lot, i think) for a touch screen i will never use.

it's pretty, though. :D

Ah, chromebooks are very good. They're fast, efficient and super light. Problem is that you have to log into your gmail to do anything and Google gets to harvest more of your data and be creepily personalized with ads. If you don't mind that, the chromebook is pretty efficient. the only other problem that I have, is because I use the capslock button. That doesn't exist anymore on the keyboard, there's a search button there instead, so that took some getting used to. But most people use shift to capitalize, so they don't have that problem.

yeah, the constant need to be online (and signed into gmail) was kind of a dealbreaker for me. i liked the idea of the streamlined OS, but i think chromebook still has a ways to go before it will rip me away from my acers.

thanks for the info!
