I swear.. Rescues are the cesspools where stupid people go to die. It never ceases to amaze me.

I hope the judge tosses the suit as frivolous, though a ruling reflecting your comments would probably be better. This is ridiculous.

Whatever came of the Ellen DeGeneres case? Did the rescue shelter win the lawsuit?

You know, it's funny.. I quickly searched for an article regarding the case to refresh my memory and see if I could find the results. I like how in the middle of the story, out of the blue, it says Ellen Degeneres, lifetime partner of Portia, blablabla. And had no connection to Portia whatsoever. The article ended It is not the first time DeGeneres has courted controversy on television. In 1997 she made history, as well as enemies, when her character on mainstream sitcom The Ellen show came out as a lesbian.

It kind of made me laugh. Her being a lesbian really has nothing to do with the story but they just kept trying to sneak it in. ;)

Anyway.. I do think that's ridiculous. I can understand where they're coming from, that they want to protect animals, but in certain circumstances, they are going about it all the wrong way. :P

I never did hear, though my impression is that the shelter effectively 'won out', in that it did not return the dog to the family. 'Course, by the time it hit the news, the dog had been adopted out to another family anyway, so bringing it back would have been a mess.

Ok, this is how I see it. Gateway says, if you can't keep the dog, bring them back and we'll take them back ( ... )

See, and the way I see it, IF Gateway was so preoccupied about the care of this dog, they would have taken him back without the 'Sorry.. you'll have to wait until we have a place." nonsense. So as far as I'm concerned, that failure right there makes everything else irrelevant. Presumably, returning the dog to Gateway is already a last resort for the family, so forcing them to hold on and wait for an indefinite amount of time is wrong ( ... )

Sucks that the people lied about it, but gah... animal rescues are already crowded as it is from not enough families adopting out animals. Yes - please! Sue the family and show everyone that if you adopt, there's a consequence if you find that the animal isn't compatible with you or your family and you need to return it, but they refuse to let you. That'll show everyone how great it is to adopt as opposed to buying an animal. Good going, Gateway :P

Some adoption centers can be totally ridiculous. My parents tried to adopt a little boy kitten from a shelter a few years ago and that place got so ridiculous, my step-dad was like "Would they like a DNA sample along with our forms?"

They ended up going for a free kitten that my mom's co-worker was giving away (her cat had a litter). Okay, unfortunately that's the cat that turned out to be Satan in black and white fur, but still.... at getting her didn't practically require a urine sample? XD
