I hate this about myself, but...

for the first time in my life, I am seriously considering going to a tanning booth. Summer's so much more than over, and I'm confident I could give Jim Gaffigan a run for his money on the pale front. It even rhymes with my name. Pale. Dale. Were I 17 years younger, I think I'd be acquiring a new nickname. And come the thaw, my pallor will ( Read more... )

When I was 19, I worked with my mom. She had started a tanning package at a place a block away from where we were working. I'd go over there on my lunch hour and soak up some rays on her package. It was the only time during the winter that I was warm!

I would totally do it again. Not to fake n' bake, but because it's honestly really nice. I felt better when I was done.

I never used a bed though, I used the one that you can stand up in. Clostrophobic (sp) anyone?

Word for the wise...start at a low minute per visit and increase SLOWLY!

I think I only ever went into the hex for 8 to 10 minutes. I started at like 5. You're pale, like me. So start with a very short visit, and increase every third or fourth visit. You'll be alright.

Coming from someone who is pale all the damn time, it's not that bad if you go every once in a while. You might run the risk of getting burnt, though. I always do. I also use the stand up ones. It's more comfortable. You could also think about investing in a self-tanning lotion. They actually work and won't damage your skin. Hope this helps!

Pale works better for you, though. I think I'm starting to look kind of blueish. I wear black at work, though, so maybe that's bringing it out.

I used to mock people in high-school/college for going. Funny how life turns around on you.

yeah, but i'm looking kind of vampiric. and not in the good way... if there is a good way. when i can't tell where my pale beige socks end and my skin begins, something needs to be done. and this girl at work kept telling me i look sick/tired. whore.

Yes. When did that become an acceptable thing to say? "You look tired." And yet, if you shot back that she SOUNDED ill-mannered, she'd tell people you were rude. It's a mystery.

it's actually nice to go tanning. something i need to get back into, i started going a few years ago. i turn ghost white with out sun exposure, read: winter, and with enough sun, i also can turn mandingo brown... okay that was a bit inappropriate, but more or less true. if you happen to suffer from seasonal affective disorder on any level, the tanning helps with that, too. just don't go for more than 6-8 minutes in a regular or facial type bed, and even less than that in a stand up.

Yeah, I remember the sun being especially kind to you, now that you mention it. I'm a little busy with work right now and my laptop fan just died, but I think I'm going to dip my toes in the tanning pool very shortly. Think I have to now. Everyone knows about it!

It is gross to me, too. However, I'm going INTO winter badly in need a bit of color, and I don't know how I'm gonna get it any other way. I just want to move up in complexion from "chalky" to maybe a "light beige" or at least an "eggshell." Not all orangey-brown, though. Ew.

How're things with you? Haven't seen you post in a while. Though I think it's safe to assume that tanning isn't one of the things you've been up to, yes? (Not that you would need to)
